Today when I was chub fishing I kept catching nice green sunfish…I thought what the hell, even though I’ve got enough bullheads, it’s always nice to be ABLE to use green sunfish if I want, remember Dirk what all the flatheads on pool seven came on???? Okay, that was just mean:)

Dead line for comments to the DNR is July 18.

Again, a quick note to Linda Ericson-Eastwood supporting longer lenght restrictions on bullheads would be helpful and appriciated!

I hope that the MN catfisherman will be able to help you in the future with DNR regulations for your favorite fish or the DNR in your state.

    Thanks all!

Edited for the bullhead portion…full summary in the General Forum…..

IN THE MATTER OF PROPOSED FISH AND AQUATIC WILDLIFE RULES

    Comment Period Summaries
    July 18, 2005 deadline

Despite the extensive outreach done by the DNR, very little input was received regarding the proposed rule changes. The comments received during the comment period are summarized as follows.

Changes in use of larger bullheads for catfish bait: Twenty people favored the idea of making it legal to use bullheads larger than 7-inches in length for catfish bait. One person was not in favor of using larger bullheads.

Who are the other 19 people?

I suppose that sounds about right.. I cant think of many more than 20 Die Hard Flathead fisherman that sit on the computer and knew of the proposed rule change.

My guess is that will do nothing? Maybe be a question on next years license purchase? Or will it possibly fly because PETA didnt jump to protect them?

21 people from two different websites? Yikes, thats terrible!! Thankyou for those who support the change and took the time to write a brief comment to the DNR. I guess if this law doesn’t change we have no one to blame but ourselves. I definaltely thought more fisherman would help out, even if they aren’t hard core flathead guys.

Fisher Dave, I remain hopeful that the rules will change.

The 21 responses from two websites tells me that “no one cares” and it’ll go through. Bullheads aren’t endanger of extinction and there’s no differance between a 9 inch or a 7 inch bh.

My impression as I walked out of the dnr office was the open comment period was more to see if anyone opposed the change….(I believe there namea are part of the public record ) Not to see if there were 100,000 people in favor. So again…you never know until Putz sings…but I remain hopeful…

As Dirk said, and I echo…thanks to those who took the minute to email the dnr…

I think it just goes to show you how few down and dirty real cat guys there are out there, or here in MN anyways.
