I’ve noticed in alot of posts that creek mouths seem to be a popular spot to target flatheads. A few questions….? How big a creek does it take to draw flatheads to it? Why do you think flatheads locate there (food, water temp. etc) ? Do flatheads feed in the shallows of the mouth or do they hold in the deeper water nearby? I’ve caught many channels over the years but have not had much luck with flatheads.

flatheads stay in the deep water near cover during the day and primarily feed at night on schools of baitfish in the shallower areas. If you are going for flatheads use live minnows (bullheads, sunfish (if legal), suckers, chubs, shad, etc.) because flatheads rarely take dead bait. Obviously you increase your chances if fishing at night- camp out and wait for them because they like to bite late or even early in the morning (this is also true with channel cats sometimes). I’m not sure how effective stream outlets are, but if there is a deep hole with old dead timber snags and calm water nearby, it’s got to be a good spot.

Flatheads feed in the shallows that are related to deep water cover. If you can find a log jam that is in close distance from a creek ….go for it.
