This might be in the wrong forum, but since it pertains to cats, I thought I would post it here.

A week ago Thursday, I made the trip to ‘shoe looking for a channel cat bite through the ice.

I stopped at a local bait shop within 30 miles of ‘shoe and asked the fella for anything dead and some small sucker minnows. He asked if I was going cat fishing. After I replied, he went on to tell me to make sure I don’t return them to the water because the lake was over run with them. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he may have meant I should take home what I catch…but I don’t think so.

Because I wasn’t from the area, I kept my mouth shut and left.

I don’t think we need to discuss the legality of leaving fish on the ice or the bait shop (owner?) suggesting that I break the law. We all know that’s wasting a resource and that’s wrong.

There are some members on this site that fish/live around there. Just wondering it that is the “normal” concensus in that area?

FYI~ I went home with my tail between my legs…skunked. I could see the fish moving up to my bait, but couldn’t get them to grab it. Any suggestions will be welcome.

    Yes,

As in my last post I have seen dead cats left on the ice by people. If you find a group of other catters they will respectfully catch and release or take their limit home with them. It is mostly the uneducated people that participate in this activity as with all things.
