Did anyone catch the show on channel 2 (PBS) on noodling for cats? Wow! Jump in the river and hand grab them in the mouth. More so let them bite you and hope you can hang on. I wish I had a VCR tape going for that one. Unbelievable!

That was pretty cool. You get a good idea were those big flatheads like to live after watching something like that. Catmen are a different breed, eh? I taped it if anyones interested.
How about that contest they had? Two 54s tied for first. One guy was attacked by a beaver and got his arm chewed up. Pretty wild. I think I prefer fishing.
Dirk, glad someone got that on tape. It is a must see in my opinion. You are right about those locations. Tunneled into those mud banks, under those log james, tucked into deep holes. I think I’ll be sticking to fishing out of a boat with a pole…thank you!
Those guys are nuts!

Nuts? Naaaaaa! Actually, the first time you go, it can be a little scary, but then you find out how much fun it is and it’s not scary anymore. I’m originally from KS and it used to be legal there. My friends and I used to do it regularly. If you’re ever fishing in one of those four states, I highly recommend trying it. It’s a blast!

Now that is sport fishing!I would love to give that a go.A real battle with a fish, not just pulling one in on a winch straped to a pole.
I did wrestle one to shore last year. She had gotten herself 4 miles up a small creek. She was stuck in a 3 ft deep pool and would have been there for the winter had we not grabed her and set her free in the river.I didn’t actually stick my fist in her mouth just kinda grabed her in the water while she was hooked.Still what a fight! and she was only 24lbs can you imagine what these guys go through wrestling with the big mamma’s?!
thought I’d throw in a few pointers. when a big fish suddenly inhales your hand right into their mouth, you have to resist from a reaction of jerking your hand out of their mouth. if you do, you will get your hand peeled of its skin. also once your hand is in there, you have to get them out from under the bank and throw them up pretty quickly. also if you don’t they have a tendency (with your hand in their mouth) they will roll on you, and you will not be able to stop a big fish from rolling, anyone have any recent broken bones from a rolling fish ? me I’d rather rod and reel them. anyone have any noodling horror stories ? later. Jack.
Jack, back when I was into noodling, we used to wear tig-welding gloves to reduce the cuts we got on our forearms from the fish rolling, and that tended to work fairly well. My worst horror story is the time I was feeling around in what I thought seemed to be a very large dugout in the bottom and an enormous snapping turtle clamped down on the part of my hand between the thumb and middle finger, including inhaling the entire forefinger. There was no mistaking what I had on!

Nope, managed to keep all my fingers. Just lost a little skin and some meat, no big deal.
LOL, people think it is crazy when i stick my hand in the jaw to hold a flatty i cought, but noodlin is a differnt story!! I would like to try that sometime, but this scrawny little fella would get pulled right under!
