Oh…sorry! When I nodded off, I my head must have hit the “continue” button…

Have you guys ever rigged your suckers/bullheads like the muskie guys? I’m not really sure how it’s done…but the treble hooks are held close to the suckers body with a rubber band…when there’s a strike, the band brakes and the hooks grab anything that’s close to them.

Yes, you thread the rubber band thru the nose of the sucker (they sell kits to do this). You then give the rubber band a couple twists and hook it to the leader. Then you take your treble hooks and hook one (take the hook and scrape some of the scales off) behind the top fin and the other on either side between the head and top fin.

A QUICK STRIK RIG WORKS WELL. I USE THEM FOR TIP-UP FISHING AND THEY COME IN ADJUSTABLE SIZES- DEPENDING ON YOUR MINNOW PREFERANCE. I HAVE ONLY USED THEM 1 TIMES FOR MUSKIES- I LOVE TO THROW MY ARMS OFF CHASING THEM(LUNGE). I DON’T HAVE THE TIME TO SIT AND WATCH A FLOAT. I WOULD LOVE TO SOAK ONE NEXT TO THE BOAT WHILE FLOGGING BAITS IF WE COULD USE 2 LINES IN MN. YOU NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION BECAUSE THESE TYPES OF RIGS IF NOT USED CORRECTLY WILL JUST KILL FISH IF THEY EAT IT.

Thanks CG…You must have been paying attention…I wasn’t.

But..Mr Muskie, with the quick strike rig..you are only gaining one hook and I’ve never seen a quick strike that has a hook strong enough for flatheads…I have to admit I haven’t looked real close either.

When you say “kill the fish” do you have the clicker set or just an open bail?

I always pay attention – somethings you can teach a old dog(fish) new tricks. Is that what your looking for, a rig like that strong enough for a catfish?

That is the set up…my question was wrapped around if that setup would be better than what most catters use, the single MONSTER hook in the tail or lips of the bait fish.

But as I’m reading the posts…it occoured to me that we are fishing from the bottom up and not the top down in most cases. I guess it would still work….but then there’s the chance old black eyes would swallow the mess of hooks…at least they would have a chance with one hook vs a couple trebles…

We had one fish that we should have kept for the grill last year. He was about 5 to 7 lbs and the hook caught past the gullet and into the stomach. I hate that!

I would say that what you want to use it for, it would work, no matter if your fishing the bottom or top. My next question would be what brands have you been using, out here, there are many good brands to chose from, I’ll look into it for you.

It’s ok, I get the just gest of it. So, are you just looking for stronger in the same size, bigger or smaller and you want this to work on a bullhead/catfish?

for cats, you would be better served with a large circle hook. Hits them in the corner of the mouth every time. Now for big toothy critters the quick strike is the cats meow. Brian no shaved cat pix ok.
