I was out yesterday on the St Croix River for one last cat trip for the year. I was chasing channel cats. I figured to follow the bait and it would eventually lead to some channels. Water temp was a cool 51 degrees, water is low and clear (675′ normal pool elevation). Anchored up in a 33 foot hole fishing cut sucker on circle hooks. Lots of baitfish on the locator (shad) and a lot of fish working the bait (mostly white bass). We were marking fish on the locator in deeper water so we anchored up. We fished from 1:30pm to 3:30 pm with a pretty cool breeze in our face from the east. We picked up one channel cat (28″) and a bunch of sturgeon. It was a fun trp for so late in the year. Attached is a picture of a big (52″) sturgeon that tried to pull me out of the boat. This may be it for this year.
