My son and I chased some cats on the St Croix on Thursday night. We picked up one small (21″) channel about 7:30pm and then had 3 dropped clicker runs until 11:15pm. I hooked into what I thought was the Mother of all flatheads. Took me about 15 minutes to finally wrestle the critter into the boat. 49″ sturgeon – what a fun fish to catch but I must admit my disappointment when I finally saw it next to the boat. I was sure I had a state record flathead. That thing was all over the place and impossible to control, it was under the boat, tangled in the motor, and just a drag screaming monster. Sure did help make the night a lot of fun. It was a beautiful night, river came up slightly following the rain with a nice current, water temp was 67 degrees.

Alright Steve! One more inch and you could say “I could keep you” before you released her! I’ve never caught on that big…mine was about half that size and unbelievably powerful

It doen’t get much better than when a fish has it’s way with you!
