What’s going on? nobody catfishing? I’m not much better really…stole away for a one nighter this weekend, some, but no “post-worthy” flats, but this one and it’s slightly smaller sibling put the channel tackle to the test. I know most of you guys don’t really get as excited about channels, but pound for pound they out-muscle a flathead easy, this one about pulled my arms off in heavy current, a beauty anywhere but the Red.

Your crazy just look at the tait of a Flat it’s square which means it’s built for power. A channel has a forked tail built for speed, so the initial hook set might be more exciting on a channel in the long run the Flathead will fight harder. Jet Cat you should think a little bit more before you open your mouth (JK)

Now look Dan…I know you’ve caught one or two fish of both species, and I’m impressed that you recognize that they have different caudal fins, but come on! I said pound for pound here. I know a forty pound flat has tremendous power, but a fifteen pound channel and a fifteen pound flat…the channel wins every time. If you don’t believe me ask someone who has caught hundreds of big examples of each, like Tim Scott. My advice: Stick to hockey:)

Personally, I think that pound for pound your standard St Croix MudPuppy would kick both their asses.

I agree that we ought to let Loomis settle this discussion. Weigh in here, Loomis. Which fights harder – a channel, a flathead, or a Mudpuppy?

Loomis – What the @!#% are you doing? You running for election or something? Pick one for God’s sake. We all know that they taste like chicken. The question is which one is the toughest. I still say my mudpuppy kicks butt. We went to you because you have this summer’s record for the fightingest fish. Now get up from the keg and go to your computer and give us a decision. Your credibility is at stake here – well, maybe not your credibility – something is at stake but I’m not sure what. Make a decision!!

Well since everyone is making up their minds here….I’ll post a couple pictures of my brother in law from a week or so ago. Although they aren’t BIG fish…please note that this was his first flathead experiance and long with being out on the river at night.

Also note that he’s not wearing gloves. (no attack intended here Catten Addict)

I ‘spose I should post the first fish of that night. My sister in laws 29.5

I don’t know why people don’t believe me when I tell them that I won’t hold their rod if they get into a big fish, but I will hold on to them if they ask….

While they were using the scale, I snapped the photos. Two things I learned on this trip. One weight the fish in the net. And two, have an extra pair of pants along in case someone gets into a good fish for the first time…
