I know it’s a lofty goal but I want to catch a state record of some kind (no matter what species). Even if it does not happen it will be fun and challenging. Another goal is to catch a 30 lb. plus cat. I know for some of you that isn’t much of a challenge but I have only gone after flatheads seriously several times last summer. Another goal of mine is to land every fish that I hook up on, last year I had way too many broken lines (mostly due to bad luck, not line strength). Let’s hear yours.

My primary goal is to make the get-together. The last two years I have been scheduled for other activities.

Another goal is to teach my daughter some patience. She’s only 8, and I didn’t learn to start enjoying ‘fishless fishing’ until I was… well… married. That’s a joke, for those who can’t tell.

As far as fishing goals, I will keep the same goal as all previous years – find consistent fishing within an hour of home. Not much luck with this so far, but it’s bound to happen. Last two years have been banner catfishing years for me, but I’m still not on the fish every time.

That reminds me of a joke I heard this winter…

2 old timers were sitting in their ice shack and one asked the other why their buddy Ole dont come fishing with them no more. The other answered-his wife started letting him drink at home.

I’d love to catch a 50 pound flathead and have my camera along for a nice pic. Carp Chaser, a 30 lb flathead is a big fish by anyones standard. Very few anglers can catch them consistently that size. I know I can’t.

My goal is to catch a Master Angler flathead (42″ or 40 lbs) I came within two inches last summer, but didn’t quite make it.

Hey carp chaser,as in every year my goal is to catch my biggest fish of any species. As for as for not loosing any fish once hooked up, thats already out the window.I went fishing 2 weeks ago on the crow river out by howard lake, was using 6 lb. test caught one cat around 6 lbs.. hooked up on another later in a small slack water,(using crawlers)had him even for about 5 minutes he finally found what he was looking for(and what I could’nt see and puuled drag which was followed by an eeeek and than the unpleasant snap.I would like to catch a channel cat over 30 inches this year.

    First key to catching a 30 ” + channel…get stronger line…

I figured someone would say that.I will use stronger line at times, but I figure smaller line gets less leaves on it when they are flowing.Plus on a side note what is the 6lb.line class record for channels in the state. My biggest is 27 inches,so it may make it more of a challenge but not impossible, but thanks for the advice anyway.

Goal? I would have to say a flathead over 40 this summer. Last summer i got one about 45 or so (never had a scale but it was as long as my boat paddle). But any flathead is still a riot to bring in!!!

If it works there is a pic attached:

I saw Winchester being filmed by Channel 5 news last week for a story they were running that evening on fishing near Red Wing. He said he was catching some nice sturgeon.
