What’s this!?!? A ‘Bass Guy’ posting in the catfish forum!??!? Say it ain’t so!!! Is that hell freezing over I hear…..sure feels like it outside.

Well, it is and I have a question to ask. This question is based on the experience I have catching cats as a commercial fisherman. A few years ago I used to pound a lot of water pulling setlines and almost every one of our sets were in the deep holes on the bottom sides of wingdams or holes in the main channel. I read a lot of posts here describing the best places to catch moster cats is in and around structure/current seams. Most of the wingdams we set were free of any kind of structure and long enough so the end didn’t create much of a current seam. We used to do quite well fishing these holes.

Seeing as how my commercial fishing days are over, and I have the desire to hook into a monster cat(without hooking one on a crankbait), I was wondering how many guys that post in this forum fish wingdams and how well they’ve faired? BTW, ask most Bass guys and they’ll tell you big flatheads LOVE crankbaits.

Blue…be forewarned…these cat guys generally don’t lower themselves to responding to ehhmm…bass guys….

I’m not that far along in my cat career to even think about responding to that…Still a wanna be…

    Blue,

Wingdams can be great…I just don’t like the traffic associated with the main channel.

Thanks Brian, I figured I was treading where I dare not. At least w/o a big stick.

See Blue? I’ll help you…In here it’s not a Big Stick…It’s called a Big Cat (rod).

I was thinking about the boat traffic. During the week…on the cooler days it shouldn’t be too bad after say…11 pm…but then you still have the barges….although they generally go around a fishing boat

The great thing about pool 7 is it has an older channel where the barges used to run and it is full of wingdams. The traffic isn’t that bad either. FYI, barges and fog don’t mix.
