If you see me this weekend it is because I stuck a hog on Friday night. Good luck to the rest of you.

I’ll be out on an all nighter on the St Croix Friday night. Missed a nice fish on Monday night and I’m going back after him again. If I nail him, I’ll see you at Everts on Saturday. Friday night forecast has early morning fog after 3am so everyone be careful running in the fog. It is not usually bad during the week but the weekends can be hairy.

CA – The water is now almost at normal pool elevation so some of those spots we were on earlier are really shallow now. I just checked the river reading and it has come up slightly and is now 675.6 and normal is 675. I think the spawn is starting – the channels are harder to find right now. I’ve been picking up some flatheads but they have all been small. I missed a nice fish Monday night – I’m embarrassed to say it but my leader knot pulled out at the snap swivel. That is a terrible way to lose a nice fish. He hammered a bullhead and headed for cover and I tried to horse him out and I felt the knot go. I made some leaders out of 65# PowerPro and I’m having trouble with my normal knots. The PowerPro seems to slip when you really hammer it hard. I snell all my hooks and that knot never fails but I was using a cinch knot at the barrel swivel and it pulled out. In the past I’ve used #50 Whiplash for my leaders and never had a problem. I may go back to that.

Do you mean a trilene not? In my experience those knots perform horribly with superlines….palomars are the way to go with that stuff. Dirk would know more, as I don’t use it anymore.

all i ever use is powerpro………from 10-80 lb. But the only knot that ever seems to hold is the polomar knot. (sorry, dont really wanna repeat jetcat/…….but he is right) If ya do the “Trilene Knot” you will have more breaks at the hook/knot itself.

I used to use Whiplash when it came out a few years ago……….but it seemed to have too loose of a braid. It made it harder to tie knots and freyed easier….in my opinion.

Fireline is also a good line, but it seemed to dry out faster….which made it break easier. You can prevent the dry “greying” line by getting the high-viz green stuff, it seemed to stay lubricated more…………well, at least thats my hypothesis..

i have used a double-polomar at times also…………but all it ever did was make knot-tieing in the dark harder. Plus, if the line overlaps itself on the knot, it seams to break easier….IMO. PLain ole polomar….easy..and strong

I used power pro quite a bit this year and I agree that you need to tie polomar knots with that stuff.

Although I’m out of town…my mind is on the river…I’m sitting at the bottom of Pikes Peak…thinking about where I’m going to get my MN record fish this year.

I’m certanly not an expert…but a triline knot with the tag end put through the second loop has never slipped for me..and I have to admit, I’ve brought up some pretty healthy logs!

    Wishen I was fishen!
