Fished the St Croix last night from 6:00pm to midnight. The river is coming back down slowly, river elevation was 677 feet and the water temp was 78 degrees. Sunday evening is tough, the St Croix gets beat hard all weekend by all the big boat traffic. Once everyone decided to go home it turned into a beautiful evening. Picked up two small flathead – 1 small one (20″) at 7:30pm on cut bullhead; another small one (24″) at 11:30pm on a bullhead.
Here are a few things I learned last night:
#1. Every time you go to the front of the boat to take a pee, you will get a bait clicker screaming run.
#2. If you are lucky enough to catch the fish, zip up your fly before taking your photo.
#3. When fishing alone in the dark don’t bother taking pictures of little fish
#4. Don’t post pictures of yourself holding a little fish with your fly open and a stupid look on your face.
#5. Don’t spray the top of your head with bug spray while wearing your favorite headlamp. Bug spray eats headlamps (S#!&) .
#6. When the Twins lose in the 10th Inning don’t kick your radio over into your bullhead bucket. In your mind go to a happy place –
#7. Be careful of the bullheads while digging your radio out of the bullhead bucket.
