Heckuva night! That pig was surely in the forties anyway. I’ve been catching the smalls here, but pretty steady action. Biggest in a week was 23, lots in the low teens. Did you catch the lunker(s) near woody cover? Were you tight on it, or were they coming out? I’ve been catching the roamers I figure, which is mainly smaller ones. My theory is that the bigs are spawning (excuse #322).

How many spots did you fish? Did the big one come from an early or late spot? Could I ask more questions?

    Great night, way to go.

You gotta be kidding me, those fish all have to be replicas, you catch the biggest cats I’ve seen consistently and you just post those pics up here to shame catfishermen. You sir are a big catfish magnet, just tell me what you boat looks like so I can pull my 6# lines up, in case you ever pass me, I don’t need to be bit off by one of those monster cats, that hide under your boat.

Woah!!!! that one’s pushing 45 my friend. Truly beautiful! Just a note, unlike channels…which tend to spawn en masse, flatheads are fairly spread out and some of the flathead experts I’ve talked with say they spawn into august…so one should be able to catch some pre-spawn fish for a while yet…it shouldn’t be like late June (although last night sure looks like it) but good fishing nonetheless. Nice work Dirk and Bob.

That is a big fish! And a great picture.
I’d like to see the width of the tail on that guy.

    Insparational!!

But I tend to use bullheads 7 inches or less…..

Fishing has slowed for us to. I was out the other night and only got two small ones. The two bigger ones hit fairly quickly after the anchor. They were in some wood but couldn’t stand that bullhead sitting in front of them.
I assume both were females but didn’t check. They were fat and still full of spawn? Can male flatheads get that big?? I don’t really know. Bobs came later in the evening and was a male if I remember correctly.

Don’t forget the male is the one who protects the nest so in theroy the male will be the bigger of the two
