When you are out catten around at night in the backwaters, (I’m not talking about the main channel here) do you keep your anchor light on or turn it off normally.

Of course the law states that you should have it on, but when your in the backwaters…it seems to serve no purpose except to blind you, attract bugs and wear your battery down. I guess the otherthing is that it let’s Jetcat know where your fishing…

Brian, I don’t think I should answer this query…and incriminate myself, does that answer your question? In the event that someone was to leave their anchor light off, they should always be ready to turn it on should they hear company coming.

    Brian,

I think the Wisconsin reg says if you are anchored within 200 feet from shore you are good to go. Most of the sloughs I fish are not 400 feet wide.

PS. Fishing in the fog is not very bright. You could easilly eat a bouy or some idiot in a tuna boat who thinks radar works well for a small craft.

If you do leave your light on bring a styrofoam cup with you. If you place this cup over your transom light it dims it down so it won’t blind you and doesn’t attract near as many bugs yet it can be seen from a long ways away.

I do not use a light unless I am on the main channel.

I believe you must have the stern light on if anchored anywhere in the water,in MN.
Its a good safetly rule….But I hate it!!
I like it dark and quiet.
