The 5th annual website Catfish tourney will be held in conjunction with the In-Depth Angling.com Get Together on July 31st. As in the past, the Catfish category will play by their own rules.

Here is the deal…. Fishing hours will be from sunset on Friday, July 30th till sunrise on July 31st. You may submit your best catfish in the following format:

Total length + girth in inches. For example. Measure the fish at it’s greatest length and at it greatest girth. (Girth is the widest spot around the fishes body usually just behind the head.) So a fish that is 40 inches long and 18 inches around totals at 58 inches. The highest total score wins.

To back up your entry we strongly suggest you take a digital picture and post it on this forum. Not a requirement, but you know how cat guys are! A fish without a picture is just a fish story.

You may fish ANY pool of ANY river or ANY lake you choose. You MUST submit your entry between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday, July 31 at Evert’s Resort. Please see me.

There will be an award for the best Flathead and best Channel.

Any questions, suggestion for rules changes, or anything else please post here. It’s YOUR tourney, so any changes to the past format will be considered.

Thanks, and hope to see you there.

    suggestion for rules changes

Jon, I have a suggestion. Since I’ll be in CO working my tail off, the rule change would be that I’m the honorary winner. No prize awarded, just the title…

Dang…I’m missing the ARM event…the GTG and now the Cat tourny! I missed out on the summer of ’04

A St. Croix rod will be awarded to first place in both the Flathead and Channel categories. All of the other entries go into a drawing for some great prizes! So make sure you get an entry registered, even if it’s not the biggest fish that swims in your catfish hole….

I’m out due to a previous commitment. Dang!! Just to let you cat guys know, if IDA is awarding rods for both channel cats and flatheads you have a seriously good chance of winning a rod, so get out there.

Do I have to sign up in advance? Is the scoring system for 1 fish, meaning the biggest fish wins or multiple fish, meaning the highest total score wins?

How do you go about submitting the entry? Do you just show up and show them your pictures, give them your measurements? Sounds like a nice little get together, by the way – anyone from here going?

No formal sign up. I do encourage a little trash talk and side betting is OK too…

Scoring is for a single fish. You may enter a score in both categories, but may only win one prize.

    John,

I sent an email as well. Do we have to go to Everetts to register our catch or is a post all that is necessary. I have to clear going north with the warden….errr….wife and I think she has other plans. With Brian unable to make it, the competition is extremely weak.

Now…the way I understand it is we can fish anywhere? So if I couldn’t make the trip to the upper Miss. I could fish the lower Wis. and still qualify? Then we just post our digital pics here for proof? Sounds like fun.

    Jetcat,

I fish the lower Wisconsin sometimes. Maybe we should get together if we don’t have to be on pool 4 to register. I know a few good spots around Millville and also Boscobel. What pool do you usually fish?

Yeah, that’s where I usually fish…Bridgeport, millville, Woodman, but upon closer inspection it looks like you still have to go to Everett’s on pool 4 to register???

With all the catfisherman dropping out, I may have to try for those funny lookin’ critters. Sounds like a good way to finish up the ARM event, head out and have a cold one waiting for a kitty to come along….

Holst asked that I back out of this thing quiet like so others would feel like they actually had a chance to win something, and maybe get a few more guys to enter the cat gig. I politely accepted his request . Mudcat may atually feel like entering again this year. And if you think this smack talk is bad, you shoulda been around last year – some may still remember!

    Dirk,

One rod with a puny bully on it? You haven’t a chance gloves or no gloves.

    JetCat,

You must show up at Evert’s to register in person between 3 and 4pm.

The main reason is this. We will award the prizes around 4pm and you must be present to win. I will award the rod to the next biggest fish or wildcard spot if a winner is not present. (Happened last year!) I will not hold or ship a rod to anyone! All prizes will go at the awards presentation. Period!

    Thanks,
    -Jon.

Dirk has won the things so many years in a row we needed to to hold him back to give others a shot!

Actually, I’m going to miss handing you a new rod this year Dirk. Just won’t seem right.

For this event you’ll need to show at Everts… that is the point afterall, to get guys from the site together in one place to rub elbows and down some good food and maybe a beverage or two.

Hope to see a number of you guys there to make sure Brian doesn’t win with a 3 Lb flathead.

I am so depressed! Where’s the beer!

With Dirk out…I could just stretch the mouth of one of my 6.75 in bullies and win….

Now I’m hoping all I have to bring up there is my digital camera and my measurements – otherwise I’m not sure if it’ll pay to rent the Uhaul and the cattle tank it’ll take to keep them pigs alive long enough to get me those fancy rods. Can’t say as that I’m too into trying for channels after sunset – most are usually too scared to be roaming in the spots I normally fish after dark. I have a few ideas, though – I reckon I’ll be able to use the rod that the channel wins on flatheads too….

Should I be pricing baitcasters? How heavy are my new rods going to be?

Whiskerkev, not even your consultation with Tonya Harding (good one JetCat) would have given you a chance with me in the there. Good luck though, you now have a chance. A St. Croix Rod??? Dang man, I coulda used another of those sweethearts.

Fishhead…your wifes rig? Does that have IDA decals on it? I don’t think anyone would get a rope…but you might want to leave your hat at home

I’m still trying to figure out what a nice guy like you….

I mentioned that I might get into this tournament, and all of a sudden Dirk is like: “Oh yeah I have these prior commitments” At least he’s smart enough to back out gracefully. Seriously, I am going to try like heck to get up there for this, be afraid….be very afraid:)

Very funny Dirk. I am still debating. I have easy access to bait on my pool. and I know were I am going. For me the motivation and challenge would be to knock Dirk of his high horse. I wish I had known about this earlier as I have already wasted most of my vacation time fishing crappy high water in the wind. Never having fished pool 4 or whatever it is up there, I would need at least a day to roam around or Dirk would whip me with one pole with small bully carefully handled with gloves. If I don’t show up my money is on Matt from La Crosse.

Whiskerkev, The way I understand it you still could fish your pool…you just have to show up at Everett’s to register, and watch me claim my rods:)

You’re welcome to come… even with your truck sporting all those “off-brand” stickers. Who are we to discriminate against someone that is CLEARLY suffering from a prolonged case of clouded judgement? … lol

Seriously though… you’d be welcomed with open arms… or maybe it would be more accurate to say open beers?

    Hope to see you there.

Man you catfish guys are cocky. I should fit right in with you, of course I’d have to stop bathing about a week before the event. Maybe I could talk Lenny into taking me out, I’ll even bring the right brand of beer.
