well, sofar this summer i had a couple problems. Not only did i miss half the catfishin’ on the Miss cuz i was at college, but i pulled an idiotic move of forgetting my catfishing tacklebox at a shore fishing spot on the WI river……..then find out that somebody took it. Heavy hooks, weights, and spendy swivels gone. arrgh……..

then last night i was loading up my boat early (1am) and put a big ole’ stain in my pants. After i backed the truck down the ramp, i turned it off and hopped out the door. The second i set my foot on the blacktop the truck popped outa gear and went racing down teh landing!!!! I barely made it into the door and flew into the cab and frantically reached for the brake. Luckily my beached boat stopped the truck from goin into the river. That coulda been a sad end to the camoflauge-flamed pickup!

Oh well…….. when you hunt/fish with me, you find out that everything that can go wrong will!

hoepfully everybody is luckier than i am…if its not one thing, its another, oh well, it gives me something to talk about…

    MCK,

Man if you and I fish together…it would be a comedy of errors, I thought all that stuff only happened to me:) On Sat. night I was using a 8.5″ (gasp…WI remember) bullhead and caught a 3-4 lb. Flat!!! I think that’s why I like the smaller bullheads you weed out the smaller Flats. LOL

Mudcat…I think you passed me on a backwater river, and some of your “luck” rubbed off. Are you running a camo motor and boat?

Friday night I was down at the Kinni on the Croix, saw some lightning in the distance and since it was to rain around midnight, figured I better check the Afton area. About 12:30 am decided to go in…motor wouldn’t start. Locator said 12.6 volts but when cranking everything went dead. Used the kicker to get in…no big deal. Put the charger on for 6 hours…fully charged, motor would start. Went to Fleet Farm and put a load on the 3 month old battery…BAD was the reading…up graded to a bigger battery and I was on my way. Still nothing when trying to crank. Turns out the starter gear “stuck” in the flywheel. Easy fix!

You are thinking that’s not bad luck! Went fishing down by Redwing…picked up one Bowfin…and lost my brand new never been used digital scale. (don’t leave things on the edge of your boat) Take the wifes car out to eat…batteries dead on the way home. Used a “jump pac” from the trunk to start it…the last five blocks we didn’t have any headlights….

    New altenator….end of story…right…no…

This morning, taking the wife out for breakfast…hop in the truck…. turn the key to start…nothing and then the key wouldn’t go back to the off position. Nothing worked, couldn’t get the key out, couldn’t move the shifter…but the steering wheel turned and wouldn’t lock. I’m thinking it’s some type of anti theft device. Call the Chev dealer…need a tow was the answer. Call Chevy’s road side assist…we’ll send a tow truck…tow truck gets there…Oh, they said you needed a tow…you just need a jump! Why couldn’t the dealer or Roadside Assist tell me that?

$45. jump when I have a pair of jumpers hanging 10 feet away..not to mention 2 battery chargers….oh well, great day to clean the boat, fill the batteries and check for lose screws…(in the boat )

ps Mudcat….I didn’t figure out who you might have been until you passed me..I see you had your catfishing buddy with you!

BrianK……..yeah, it was probably me. CamoClad Merc, big rod rack in the back, and a handle bar to hang onto. . It also looks like you had one heck of a weekend with problems.

LOL… dont get me started on duckhunting stories neither! (well, maybe just one) Such as starting to run outa gas in rollers and white caps, while driving a GoDevil (terrible in open water), and an overloaded boat with decoys & feild blinds, all while water is coming over the back of the boat at 4am and 25 degrees.

….we all talk about runnin’ into problems or stupid things happening. At least we can look back and laugh……at least i do.

JetCat…………. i belive we could counter ballance the “Tim The-Toolman Taylor” effect if we joined forces. On the other hand, we may wanna stay very far away from each other………haha

Sounds like you were out late and really tired, after forgetting to take the straps off the boat, and trying to float it off the trailer with any luck, until I undid the straps, then forgetting the plug, no big deal boat was on the trailer, I realized it right away, before I even attempted to launch the boat, then there’s the idea that yeah I can jump to the dock from here, no that one really really hurt, I’m lucky I didnt break an ankle. After all that I decided I will not go fishing unless I’ve had enough sleep, and haven’t done anything remotely stupid since. Live and learn.

Must have been some sort of curse on catfisherman last weekend. I got to my favorite boat landing only to discover that the plug had blown out of my boat somehow. I happened to be close to Lansing IA so I went there and bought a new one. The store would have closed had I waited 5 minutes longer. I got back to the boat landing and was backing in when I thought I lost brakes. I too almost went into the river. Turned out the landing had an inch of clay mud on it. My friend was 45 minutes late and it was too dark to go to where I like to go. Next day broke the tip off one of my rigs. Did manage a nice 20 pounder on Sunday though. The spawn is over in my area and everything seems to be making up for lost time. Most people I talked to have said that the walleye bite is the best they have ever seen this last week.

Dan: No, that was more to prove a point to Dirk (and maybe rub it in a little…LOL) I use what ever I can catch, usually around 6″ I really like green sunfish too, but I usually have more bullies

I find that the smaller ones 6 to 7in can get the big ones as well as the 8 and 9’s. also the channels seem to like to play with the pan fish and tend to leave the bulls alone
