Got out with JetCat Friday and Saturday for some serious cat duty. Had a great time with a very knowledgeable cat man and had some good success. Here’s some of the nicer fish.

Jetcat! Notice the first two pic…smaller (in comparison) fish…the last two the smile went away…getting heavy huh?Looks like you two had a great time! Nice looking fish!
BigKookiePosts: 4July 5, 2004 at 3:47 pm #311235I’m not angry, just tired.. that Big fish was Dirk’s and he made me hold it for the pictures!! All the other “little” fish are mine. We had an unbelieveable weekend, Dirk is a super knowledgeable catter…a true asset to cat-fishing. This is one alliance the Flatheads are not happy about:)

BigKookiePosts: 4July 5, 2004 at 5:15 pm #311244Jet Boy – Your fairly cockey!! I know Dirk can get’em but your green on this site.
BigKookiePosts: 4July 5, 2004 at 5:21 pm #311245Jet boy I noticed your from New Berlin and it looks like your fishing the Mississippi in Minn, that is a 5 hr drive do you ever fish the Fox which flows into Green Bay there is a heck of a population of Flatz in That river.
July 5, 2004 at 5:33 pm #311246Big Kookie, cocky in what way? I fish Flatheads all over…the upper mississippi is just my favorite destination. It’s JetCat.
BigKookiePosts: 4July 5, 2004 at 5:42 pm #311247your right I apoligize for thr cockey comment, but have you ever fished the fox?
July 5, 2004 at 5:51 pm #311248The upper Fox is fairly strong, they do however allow bankpoles and such I try to fish areas that only allow more sporting Flathead opportunities…the previous Wi Flathead record 65 lbs. came from the upper Fox, it does have potential…in my opinion the other good destination and my second favorite area is the lower Wisconsin, much more rural setting, they allow bankpoles there too but it’s got a lot more fishable area, and a much smaller human population density nearby…and big fish. God willing I can post some pictures from down that way this year too. The Widnr insists there is a strong population in the wolf too, but myself and friends have not had much luck there.

July 5, 2004 at 6:32 pm #311251Nice fish guys!
I envy you JetCat.Being able to fish lots of different rivers.Thats how a guy realy learns the ways of his favorite quarry.I have only fished for flats on two occasions on other rivers than the Minnesota.(and I am stuck using 7″bullies )
Next year…I tell you next year,I am going to be everywhere!July 5, 2004 at 6:52 pm #311254Great pictures guys.
Jason, you are right about a non-sporting attitude on the upper Fox. From what I’ve seen anyway. Winter flathead “fishing” (snagging), guys doing TV shows and seminars on winter flatheads, etc…
And, yes, the Lower WI is very fishy. (and shallow)
I look forward to chasing flatheads down there since I’ve only managed channels so far, some big channels though.July 5, 2004 at 7:29 pm #311260Fishhead: At least the river you are “stuck” fishing is the Minnesota I can’t think of too many rivers with better habitat…or more Flatheads, your only caveat may be a somewhat limited top end size. I wish I had something under a 100 miles away to fish regularly for Flats…they rule.

July 6, 2004 at 12:24 am #311279nice work guys, looks like ya had some consitantly large fish. Was that all in one night?………… either way, i am in envy like always!
all i was graced with this weekend was little fish eating big baits. Maybe life will turn around….prolly not…LOL
July 6, 2004 at 1:56 am #311287MCK, It was two nights, but only the second picture was from Sat. We had enough smaller ones too, but Fri. was pretty consistent with nice fish…the pre-spawn bite is strong this year, but fading soon I imagine
Jason.July 6, 2004 at 1:04 pm #311320Jet cat which streches of the wisconsin river do you fish? I fish down there and it can be real tough at times interms of navigation and fishing
July 6, 2004 at 2:18 pm #311338Dan: I fish out of bridgeport, millville, and woodman, I went once out of Arena…where you and Bradd fish. With my jet navigation is no longer a problem, you guys should really think about gettin one…they really make sense on the “big sandy” Hopefully I can take you two out in the jet, you can see how easy it makes it. The key on the Wisconsin is movin around (any river for that matter) take the one or two active fish, and then hit another trough…or snag.

What kind of jet rig are you running?
I have been in the jet age for quite a few years now and in my opinion its the only way to run a river.I used to run jet/jons but have since upgraded to a River Pro.Its a great cat boat and the best money I have ever spent.July 6, 2004 at 3:20 pm #311349FH, There is a picture and some discussion in the “Sat. night” thread from a few days ago on it. It is a 1872 SeaArk jet-tunnel with a 150 johnson outboard that I converted to jet. It is 8 ft. wide, with a 30 gal fuel cell, foot throttle, all aluminum treadplate interior, and transom pods. You are right, jets are the way to go for riverine catfisherman. 3 of my friends and family have them and I expect that number to grow, as I have answered a lot of questions from catfisherman I have taken out, ( I think Dirk’s wife was gettin nervous when he said maybe they should have three boats!! ) Our boats are both built like tanks…yours is a bit faster than mine though (36mph) I like the room at the stern vs. the “pro” however. I would like to take a pro through the paces some time, they look cool. Jump a few logs for me:)
