does anyone use sunfish for big cats?

i have been trying to catch some big cats but have had trouble finding the right bait what do you all use? do you use whole sunfish like really small ones or cut them up?

I use live blue gills to catch a lot of my big flatheads. I also use live creek chubs and bull heads when I can get my hands on them. Cut bait works good for blue cats and channels you will have better luck using live bait for flatheads though.

I always use bluegills, oh wait a minute! I live in Minnesota, we have to save our bluegills for the hoards of immigrants so they can fill their 5 gallon buckets.

Fishingkid, I think many of us in MN would use sunnies, but it’s a violation of the fishing laws here.

For many, it’s the bait of choice for Flatheads. I would guess bullheads under 7 inches and store bought suckers are the baits of choice for us.

For Flats always use the liveliest bait you can find, for channels cut bait works the best.

I don’t know the WI laws…so make sure you check them out before you start cutting up sunnies or walleyes!
