Fished the St Croix from 6:00pm to 9:15pm. Water is high with elevation at 681.8 feet(about 7′ above normal river elevation), water temp 70 degrees, light mayfly hatch going on. Nice moderate current flow through the backwaters with some active baitfish. Caught 3 nice channel cats on cut sucker. Channel cats are very active right now and hammering cut bait. Circle hooks work great when they are hammering the bait. Drowned a couple of bullheads for flatheads but didn’t stay at it very long, had to get home.

Twins win in extra innings. A great night for a ballgame and even better for fishing cats. Had a great time!!

I would bet that’s 681.8….I have big fingers at times too Are you fishing “fast” water for the channels? I’m wondering if the ol Flats aren’t in the flooded wood as noted on another post.

Missed your call yesterday. I went fly fishing for bluegills with Dad in Litchfield yesterday.

Brian – I missed that typo – Yes, it was 681.8 feet. I edited it to fix it – I hate those fat fingers too. It is from all those bullhead stings.

Brian – I’m catching the channels in backwaters with slow to moderate current flow. In some cases I’m only using a 1/2 ounce egg sinker to hold the bait. They have been just grabbing the bait and taking off.
