I did a little checking with some other states. Wisconsin (as we already know), Iowa, and Illinois residents can all use bullheads (and sunfish I believe) without size limits. I stopped checking after Ill. I’m not 100% sure on this but the above seems to be fact. Minnesota flathead anglers are at a definite disadvantage when compared to other states!!

Not to rub anything in, but we also use three lines per angler – as good as those bluegills work, it’s a lot easier to sit in confidence with three in the water than one.

Well, okay… maybe I was rubbing it in…

Dirk – After all this controversy about bullheads, I thought I would ask the MN DNR about the legality of chumming. I referenced what Wisconsin will allow (they allow you to chum using fish parts in a mesh bag provided you pull the bag and empty the contents into the trash when done)and I also asked about the use of commercially prepared chum. I got a response back yesterday: “Minnesota does not permit chumming at this time in either form as described in your question”. In the big picture the rule makes sense but again it is another example of the different rules between the states on the border water.
