Zimmy,
Im from La Crosse too. Sorry I didnt see this post sooner and I hope you read this.
One of my favorite areas…is called shady maple down on hwy 35 its a wayside just south of goose island about a mile. Ive logged more time fishing there than anywhere since I was old enough to lug my tackle box over the train tracks. Good multi-species spot. It has changed over the years. Years ago the bluegill fishing their was unreal. Lots of Northerns and bass in their.
You could also try the Onalaska spillway but that is another very popular area. Goose Island offers lots of shore fishing opportunities and a little solitude. Just drive back in their and pick a spot. If you want catfish you hit the jackpot here.
Camp 22 is another spot I like especially for Northerns and crappies. Its right next to the airport and just a stone’s throw from the onalaska spillway.
Good luck and let me know if you need any more help with directions and stuff.
