Out tonight …

Got going early and worm fished a spot that looked promising – the bait was definitely there, so we decided to fish it – typical spot above a snag. No bites by 10:30 and some good steady rain. We decided to leave and maybe hit a spot on the way back. Since we thought the night was kind of a wash, we decided to go “off the wall” and try a spot that was quite different from our typical (narrow) view of good flathead water. We had a hunch or hope that it might be the kind of spot they’d head to when they’re out on the prowl. We had a short supply of bait, but managed to get a 16,19, and 21 out of them – and the 21 was on a dead one we threw out in desperation. I also lost a roughly twenty pounder at the boat (never had that happen before – need to sharpen my hooks). A couple of pics:

Learned a bit tonight – try those spots you have hunches about!

    Happy Hunting,

    Matt

‘Morning FlatheadWI! Couple questions. On your website, you have a picture on the 2003 page of a cat with a highlighted circle on the cats back. What was the story there?

Also, on the first picture above, I notice the coke can. Is it true that when a flat drips some slime in your drink that it revitalizes you and you can fish longer? Which generally means more fish…less sleep needed?

    Hey Brian,

The pics on the site all have captions if you hold the mouse over the picture for a few seconds. That one came in with the hook into the top of his head – How I sure do not know, but it got hooked there. Hit like a normal flat, though.

I refuse to divulge the healing properties of flathead slime – don’t want them to go the way of the Rhino…

Went out again the next night (Sunday night) and we got a twenty and a twenty one from the same spot – interesting that they’re all in that same size range.

    Happy Hunting,

    Matt
