I was lucky enough to tag along with Mr. Dirk W (yes the contributing editor to In-Fisherman) for a channel cat fishing adventure. The forecast was scatter showers with t-storms. I was hoping for the best.
Once we arrived at the first of his secret cat holes and I was allowed to take the bag over my head off…(still not sure if he didn’t want me to see where we were going….or what), we tossed out some cut chubs and redhorse sucker.
The first couple spots didn’t get the blood pumping but, the 3rd hole along a nice little undercut bank popped out a little flat head. From hear on it was all channels and more than I’ve seen in one outing! Never seemed to have to wait too long for a rod to bounce a couple times and then take the “golden dive” where the rod tip heads to the water!
I will be the first to admit, I’m not an expert on where cats hold, but we fished and caught channels today that I would have passed over for “dead” water. I was amazed at the number that came out of one particular stretch. I may be off a bit, but I believe it was four.
I lost count of the number of cats that were boated today. It was somewhere around 10 or 12. Learned a few things from the ol’ Pro and had a great time. I would say that was an excellent day catt’en.
Thanks Dirk!
