Millions of shad have moved into the NSP channel at Bayport. You can easily collect enough for your bait neeeds.

I just vacuum packed about 40 lbs of shad. I struggled for about an hour then filled the bucket on two throws of the cast net. Thats quite a hike when your hauling bait!!

I want to learn how to throw a cast net!I have been chasing mine around the back yard every spring for years trying to get that darn thing to open up!I even bought one of those frisby looking devices to cast it with,(waste of ten bucks)The neighbors think I’m nuts.

I saw a new design in the Cabelas catalog that has a plastic colar that is supposed to help cast it.Wonder if that will work?

Geez…I never even thought about whether the’re legal in MN or not. The DNR handbook says seins, dip nets, and traps are legal. Someone have some clarification? There are some web sites that will help show you how to throw one and some videos. Try http://www.seeinstripes.com/castnet.htm for starters. They are effective but do take some practice.
