i highly doubt any of you have used these worms, so i fugred i would ask. I have read before that Catalpa trees attrack a certain type of worm, and it eats the leaves. apparently these worms work great for catfish…. …….

we got a Indian Cigar Tree (a type of Catalpa) in our front lawn at school………. i talked to my PlantTaxonomy professor today and he said that the Catalpas tend to bloom in May-June, and i might be able to find these worms in the HUGE “pea-pods” that the tree holds.

any of you know any other information about these worms……… even if they arent workin great for cats…… i bet i can hammer the sheepies!

MCK, let us know how they work?

The only thing I know about them is that they taste like chicken…

Growing up in southern Illinois we used catalpa worms whenever we could get them but not often for cats. Bluegill just love them and you can catch several fish on each worm. I haven’t seen any catalpa worms since I moved up here, I figured it was too cold for them. The worms at home were about 2 inches long and about as thick as a pencil when they were grown. They hatched out in a spiderweb looking area in a fork in the tree, I never saw any come out of the “cigars” so I wonder if that is the same thing I am thinking of. We did use them for cats occasionally but they were no better than other baits but if you get some, try them on bluegills.

We use catalpa worms all the time on the Rock River. Chanel Cats love them.

I’ve been informed that you need to just watch them for a while…they are easier to hit…I guess they get bigger.

    Hey CNinIl,

Where on the Rock do you fish? I do some fishin’ on the Rock from Barstow down to the the Mighty Miss. I have also used Catalpa’s and had some really good days with numbers of channels coming to the boat on them. There also great on panfish too.
