so……. i hope its not just me, but i seem to only hook about 1/100th of the channel cats that i have bite my cutbait. usually i use smaller 4/0 cirlce hooks, and even standerd mustad hooks… but seem to always miss them.

the channels always get ya exited too! ……. ya see the rodtip bounce a bit……. then it runs like heck… then stops…. and you are robbed! Iam thinking using a trebble hook with a spinner to make it legal. what are yr guy’s opinions

Upgrade to bigger hooks. If you use circles make sure they are running away from you before making contact with the fish. My guess is they are grabbing your cut bait and continuing up stream to feed. You are probably pulling the circles right out of their mouths.

I was just watching a video explaining how the circle hooks work…with pictures!

The moving towards you post above and setting the hook too hard is the most common reasons for a missed fish. Setting the hook is the number one reason.

Brian, what is the name of the video?

Mudcat, don’t feel bad. I was out this pm and got only four channels. If I would have hooked all the peckers I would have had 829 . I counted.

Dirk, I have four vidios that Comm let me borrow. I think it was Classic Cats…
But it could have been one of the other three.
