Well I just finished 8 straight days of fishing and guiding on Petenwell Flowage,(river from Nekoosa to the head of the lake).. it was possibly the worst year ever for walleye over 24 inches and keepers were more difficult than usual., ( 3 , 4 & 5 years ago we averaged 4-5 over 24 every day and 35- 48 keepers a day!!!) , I didn’t fish there last year in the low water). My best day so far this year for keeper walleye was 7. White bass were spotty, but the bright point was an almost unlimited number of 3-10lb channel cats. They seemed to care less about no flow. Yesterday afternoon with one gate partially open and the hydro rolling pretty solidly the bite was better from 2 – 6… and we were miles away from the dam. I had great time with Trent and Eric… both experienced fisherman that were just looking for another place to understand and fish in the future. I guess we averaged about 25 fish a day.. A big thank you to Maple Motel and Sunrise Bait for their usual excellent service. Maple has excellent weekly rates and Sunrise has Jumbo fatheads that just won’t die. Lawrence
