Cargo ship hits bridge.

A large Maersk-owned Cargo ship hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland this morning at 1:28am. It ran into a support beam and a large section of the bridge collapsed into the water. Rescue missions to find missing people is still underway. From what I’ve read, the vessel lost power a few minutes earlier, relayed a mayday to shore and traffic was halted. I attached a video (no sound) and you can see black smoke billowing from the ship prior to impact before the ship goes completely dark and loses power.

They were looking for 7 people this morning, but with 45 degree water temps they wouldn’t have lasted long even if the got out of their vehicles.

If you watch the vessel loses power twice and recovers power both times but it was too late to change course.
The black smoke was from the diesel engine getting the full throttle treatment, in reverse I’d imagine. Scary stuff. Last I heard there was around 20 people missing.

That same ship apparently had some sort of other issues overseas recently too. Watching the video earlier today it almost seemed like it was steered into the bridge. I could see it lost power but it clearly turned before it hit that piling didnt seem right to me the first 10 times I watched that video. Yeah you can clearly see the billowing black smoke but something just seemed off. If it wouldnt have turned I am not sure if would have even hit the bridge.

Maybe ISIS will claim credit for this also?

The video of it going black from losing power a few times and then ultimately crashing is pretty terrifying.

In harbors not familiar to the ships/vessels it’s very common to have a local pilot-boat and/or local captain to get physically maneuver the ship in and out of port.

I read that the boat was in under the control of a local captain who (presumably) knew the area well.

Everything is speculation at this point, but if that were the case, the first thing I would do if losing power in a gargantuan boat heading towards a bridge would be to drop anchor (which likey wouldn’t rely on electricity, just manpower and commands)….

It’s easy to play captain hindsight, but it does seem like it could have been prevented.

I was watching the news at 5am when I saw that happened. I broke into a cold sweat as the Belle’s Son was on his way home from NYC at that time. Good thing they shut down traffic because he would have been close.

The plan is to blame it on Ukraine.

How about the vehicles crossing the bridge seconds before the collapse.

Hard to say, some of my duties aboard USS Saratoga Aircraft carrier where to steer emergency control of (1) of the 22 ton rudders and in port anchor detail . When we dropped anchor we used a 25 ft anchor windlass , those 980 lb links came flying out of the chain locker . The windless was nothing more than a giant brake . If we ran out of nitrogen gas which was needed to operate it . The whole enchilada would be on the sea bed . Dropping anchor was calculated and took a considerable amount of time . IMHO i don,t think it would have made a difference , if they let it free wheel it would just rip the last link out of the chain locker .

My understanding is that the mayday to shore halted traffic once it was received and greatly reduced the amount of vehicles actually on the bridge when it collapsed.

Approximately 31,000 vehicles cross the bridge on a daily basis.

Where were the Harbor Master, Pilot and tug?
Those huge ships usually move so slow , at a distance they’re hard to tell if they’re moving. This thing seemed to be going way too fast.

Has the deep state started blaming Russia yet, retaliating for the shootings (Victoria Noolan threats) last Friday?

If it would have been a train the government would have not shown up for 2 months and would have sued the owner of the equipment.
BUT since it was a ship that was 100% at fault we rushed there (Bootajudge on his bike) and said that we will use the taxpayers $ to rebuild everything better than it ever was!
I assume that Biden needs the votes in that area of the country or he wouldn’t have brought it up…

Exactly, nothing can ever just be an accident or failure of equipment.

There’s a 6 minute real time security cam video of this that show where the construction vehicles are and you can see flashing lights pull up to the end of the bridge. There isn’t very much time between the flashing lights and the bridge going down.

Believe I heard the ship was going 8 knots. They hinted that was a little fast.

Who made it political ? Did my eyes and ears deceive me or maybe Biden did not get on TV and say the federal government would rebuild the bridge N/C to Baltimore or the State of Maryland ? Who made it political ? The Federal government pays for nothing, TAXPAYERS do. Why would he let the boats insurance off the hook, with ZERO investigations ? I would rather he keep his campaign promise and cure cancer already… times running out. coffee

165,000 TON (approximate) ship going even just 8 knots isn’t exactly going to stop/turn on a dime in an emergency, let alone with no power.

I forget which way it works would 8 knots be like 6.5 or 10 miles per hour?

Hard not to when the president got a message out in record time saying that the cost to rebuild would be handled by the government.

I don’t know, maybe the chicken that crossed the road to find an alligator who just so happens to like sun bathing while eating frosted flakes.

That’s who I would blame for making it political, but that’s just me.
