    Question…..
Does anyone have a family member that is currently deployed?

The reason I ask….2 years ago my son decided that instead of gifts for him for his 8th birthday that he wanted his friends to bring stuff to put together care packages for a deployed soldier. We were able to get the name of a local Marine that was in Sweden doing winter training at the time so it worked out great. The party ended up putting enough stuff together for 3 good sized boxes of goodies that we sent over to him over the following few months. That soldier’s time in the military is up this year and our son wanted to do the same thing for a new soldier for his b-day party this year. We made some attempts to get names from the local recruiters and haven’t had any luck as of yet….which leads me to this post.

If you have a family member that is deployed over seas and you wouldn’t mind providing his or her contact info/mailing address please PM me. We can certainly chat via phone first, shoot me a PM and I can respond with my cell #.

    Thanks
    John

Wow I’d be proud of that kid! Nice work Dad! And compliments to your son for being such a selfless person already at 9 yrs old! I wish him luck!

Unrelated but semi related, we have a friend currently in Afghanistan. We are sending care packages regularly to the tune of at least $50/package. Why the government wouldn’t have a free shipping system for service men and women is beyond me. Just a personal rant on my part I guess. We try to send a couple of personal items and then many share items for the rest that might not be getting stuff from home.

Have you tried the MN National Guard Facebook page to see if they can help?

FYI – I know they made changes and the package must be addressed to an individual. You can no longer just send to the APO. I made that mistake with a box of fishing/hunting magazines

If you don’t get much for results, I know my old unit from active duty is in Europe for awhile now. I’m sure there are others in the Middle East and their lives are probably much worse but if nothing else pans out let me know.
