I have heard nothing but bad things about the Traverse, the bright side is at least you are getting a check and can be done with it. What ever you do, do not by a 2011-2014 F150 with the Ecoboost. The newer ones are better, but the old ones had incredibly high failure rates with the Cam phasers/Timing chains.

If I were you I would get a mid-size truck. Tacoma is great, but the used prices definitely reflect their desirability (4runner’s are in the same boat, but would be a great option for you too). Honda ridgeline or Nissan Frontier would be my choice.

    I bought a 2010 F150 with 77K have 110 on it now. 16K from the dealer.
NO ECO BOOST 5.4 liter Naturally aspirated V-8. That’s what our relative the mechanic told me to buy. Absolutely love it.

Price points are everything in this scenario, $10k will get different recommendations than $20k, or even $5k.

All 5k buys right now is a rust hole with wheels on it. I am looking. It is desperate.

    Buy Tim McGraw’s F150 its 7500 OBO.
You cant get much for under 10k these days. Certainly nothing without rust or some other issues. Shopping for a truck for my son and found what appeared to be a decent truck for 5500. Go to look at it, rust galore, odometer didnt display and heater didnt work and all the tires were mismatched.

There are tons of deals for under 10k. Just don’t shop in MN or from a dealer. Cash in hand talks

Yeah wasnt too happy about it. I mean I really looked at the pictures before driving to look at it but in person it was nothing short of disappointing. The worst part is when I got home I found another truck IN MY TOWN for less money, less miles and NO RUST that was posted minutes after we left in the morning, but it sold before we got home and I saw the ad! That was a beautiful truck and really underpriced so someone stole it.

Winter doesn’t destroy your vehicles, the state dumping millions of lbs of salt on the roads destroys your vehicles. Just like it is destroying the metro area lakes.

I think that’s what he meant, but ya, specifically, its the massive amount of road salt we use here that really causes issues not only with vehicles but also with the environment.

When I was shopping the used rusty Mn trucks were more exspensive and had more miles than the trucks I was finding down south, lol.Made my decision easy.Of course that was before the pandemic got fired up and used prices went sky high and inventory is now depleted, who knows whats out there now.

Ya. Buy a truck down south to save 1000.00 and pay 2000.00 in gas to get it home. Just kidding of course

It might be worth the drive just to escape some rust. I know you would have to drive farther than central Iowa. It seems like there is a price bubble here and 80% of private sellers are really seeing how much they can get from it. I also don’t understand getting a loan on a $12,000+ x 200,000 mile vehicle.

I bought a 2018 Ford F 150 A little different backing the boat up as the tailgate will not work in the down position it will hit the winch but I just need a little practice love it so far. Just used to open hatch gate on Traverse. It was absolute hell trying to find a vehicle this one has a lifetime warranty on engine and driveline included 78,000 miles. Most trucks in the 20,000 buck range had lots of rust and over 200,000 miles on them we bit the bullet and hope we got something that will go a long time. Thanks for the replies we had our mechanic look at it before buying he said it looked good. We attempted to look at SUV’s and Toyotas and Hondas even we couldn’t even touch it for the prices and nothing in the GM realm even looked inviting. We tried 2 Chevy trucks one died on the way out of the dealers lot that was fun!

    Glad you found a truck.
When backing in, use your mirrors no need to drop your tailgate.
Is the Ford a 5.0 or eco boost

    X2

However, it does take some getting used to if you originally learned how to back up by physically looking back, which I did using an SUV before I had a truck too. Obviously now I can do either one and primarily use the mirrors.

It is the Eco Boost the second generation. I put a small trailer tester in the plug end in the back so it always thinks it has a trailer and it disables the eco boost. My mechanic who we really trust said this one would be good plus it is covered under warranty the eco components. Instead of buying it then asking forgiveness from our mechanic this time we paid to have it looked at before we bought it. New tires and rotors and brakes as well. Embarrassingly I used to drive semi but got so used to just opening the gate it has a longer wheel base as well.

??? Disables the ecoboost if it has a trailer hooked up? That doesnt make any sense.

Captain musky when the truck reads that a trailer is hooked up to the truck it automatically disables the start stop go feature it is still an eco boost but you don’t get that stupid shutting off and starting up at stops etc. Make sense? This is a 4 plug tester that shows if your circuits are working for trailer lights they are about 4 bucks there is a button you can turn it off each time but that would be annoying. Mechanic told us to do that and it would work/run great.

Yeah that is not correct. The eco boost is the turbo it can not be disabled.

THAT makes perfect sense. I was confused by the disable ecoboost part, but that I completely get. Cool. Enjoy your new ride and practice backing with the mirrors. At first, put your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, that way as you back you move your hand the direction you want the trailer to go. This is what messes up people a lot if they have their hand on the top because its the opposite. I know full well how different vehicles mess with your backing skills. I put a swing tongue on my trailer which overall makes the tongue longer and its messed me up big time. That and my truck is longer than my previous one makes it even worse. I had a major win over the weekend when I got home with the boat to find the opposite side of the street filled with cars for a birthday party and somehow managed to back the boat into the driveway and garage without issue. My son said “you’re kind of a bid deal”.

The eco boost is a small v6 turbo. Not start stop. Start stop can be disabled in the settings. Your mechanic I would think should know this.

Have not had a truck in years the thing I liked about a SUV is locking all your gear in the inside with a truck need a topper and possible theft easier?

Glad you found a decent rig had a price you could afford.

FWIW this is why I’m addicted to suvs. All my gear is kept inside safe, warm, dry, and dust free.

When it comes to vehicles these days you basically have to buy what you can get and what you can afford.

Sorry for the confusion every one. My mechanic explained it to me as well.

Grouse I know what you mean with the SUV it was hard to go to the truck for that reason alone. I like it all locked and cozy.

What I do like is hopefully I can drive on the lakes more as the clearance was always in issue with the Traverse it could hold it’s own but you really had to be carful where you went. Ice fishing of course grin

Sharp looking truck you picked up.
FYI, if you don’t want to mess with the trailer plug setup as you mentioned above you can just reprogram the trucks codes via Forscan to disable it 100% of the time.
That will allow you to keep the “trailers” trip odometer intact and also allow you to disable all of the annoying lights, trailer warnings, door chimes that take place on a newer Ford.

This is the way to do it. Other wise it’ll count every mile you drive as a mile of towing, which will hurt resale potentially
