It took a looooooooong time for me. I still lose it sporadically.
Better than the shot though.
The 3 times I lost mine was back within a week or so. Guy I work with lost his and took almost a year to get it back.
I never got Covid nor did my wife or kids, so I can’t relate on that front…but I know that losing your taste and smell with a head cold and whatnot gets real old real fast. The best “eating” holiday is coming up, so hopefully it gets better. I can’t imagine a Thanksgiving without tasting things

Last year I lost my smell and taste when we took the kids to Disney World. Walking through the international food festival at Epcot was painful. Listening to everyone raving about how good everything smelled and tasted and I could have chewed on tree bark and not known the difference.
Where you been the last 4 years? That’s one of the most common symptoms. Some people it lasts just as long as the illness, some it lasts longer. Some are still experiencing it 3-4 years after their original symptoms. Doctors and chiropractors have found remedies that can help but it’s typically only done after a prolonged period. For me it was about a month of no smell/taste then it suddenly came back. My brain fog lasted about 6 months.

How do you explain the FW’s poor taste then? I guess that started pre-covid…heyyoooo I kid, I kid.

No offense but have you been under a rock for 4 years? That is the most common side effect of covid since day 1. It will come back for some its quick for others it takes time you will be fine in the end.

Agreed. It is different for everyone.
I say take advantage of it. Eat nothing but protein shakes and kale. Get yoked. Don’t have to smell your own protein farts.
A friend of mine was in the hospital for 3 weeks and even after he went home he was on oxygen for the better part of 6 weeks. He said that much oxygen burned up his mucus membrane, so three years later he still can’t smell much of anything, and hasn’t a booger in that time either.

What a coincidence. Last year I went to Disney with my kids and lost my mind.

Well that’s definitely taking the glasses half full approach.

And everything in my wallet.
I learned this way back in HS probably earlier. Your sense of smell and taste are tied together. If you cannot smell, you likely will not taste anything. To test it plug your nose with two fingers and then eat something. I bet you wont taste it or at the very least it will be off tasting.

I learned this when I was very young. It came in handy when my Dad would force us to eat liver for dinner.
I’ve had covid multiple times now. Smell taste issue didn’t last long for me. The first variant I had was when it first started up in January before there was any serious amount of known cases here. I know I contracted it from people that were at SHOT SHOW. Anyways that was the worst. The taste/smell was gone for about 3 weeks, but I was chronically tired for over a year.
I never got my taste back from Covid got it during the pandemic.
I believe Chris Cuomo, the former CNN guy, recently posted about how his Dr prescribed Ivermectin and it really helped with his symptoms, including taste/smell. Which is ironic since he was on team horse paste during the pandemic, but would be worth looking into for you maybe.

It was tremendous watching Dave Smith absolutely roast Cuomo for this. If you need a good laugh, Youtube that clip from the PBD podcast. Nothing better than watching a lawyer lie point blank while being shown video clips of themselves to their face.

This is funny af. Been building in the gym for last couple months w cleansing….
Still have two friends that have not recovered taste going over 4 years now. The doctors do not think they will ever get back their taste.
It’s an unfortunate symptom, sometimes long lasting. I lost mine for 2 days when I had it way back in Dec 2021.
Gotta wonder how many people in this country have long term effects like this, given the number of people just in this thread that do. Has to be hundreds of thousands.
Thank you, China
You’re right Gim, I am sure there are thousands of people out there where it never came back and may not come back. Its weird how things like this affect people differently.

Its not just the taste/smell for long lasting affects. As I mentioned, I had chronic fatigue for over a year. I know people that are into 2-3 years of what I had plus some that have chronic headaches still, but never before having covid. So many variants and affects people differently. Horrible part of covid variants is they change so rapidly. No cure and no vacs for it. The “shots” are for past variants but not the future. For those old enough, remember the pig flu? The Swine Flu is a nasty variant of Covid. They scrambled for a vaccine like they did this last time but as soon as a variant happened, that was game over.
Oh yeah Randy the taste and smell is really probably not that big of deal, but the other stuff you reference really would suck! They have some treatments for it now so if people are still suffering from long covid there might be help out there for you.
I appreciate the responses. I am well aware that loss of smell and taste are symptoms of and result of Covid. I was interested in hearing from others who lost these senses and what they experienced. It’s about two weeks and counting until the best food day of the year.
I feel bad for those of you that lost your smell and taste permanently.

I remember it. 2011 I think? Started in Mexico. I got it and was so dehydrated I needed an IV. I was never a regular or believer of annual flu shots until that episode. I am now.
Bird Influenza is likely to be the next thing at some point. It’s not spreading from person to person yet but it’s been around in poultry and birds for years. And now it’s in dairy cattle. There’s been a few documented cases in people who work directly with poultry and dairy cattle but they’ve all recovered after mild illness. If it starts spreading from person to person, get ready for pandemic 2.0.
