Do any of you folks know if it’s safe to drive on this lake? Because it’s part of the river system I’ve always been skeptical of driving on it.

I have driven on it a lot, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. I have not been on it this year but I’ve seen a few big trucks out there every time I drive by.

It is safe to drive on in the right spots. Avoid areas where the current is going thru and be safe.

I was thinking of driving onto the lake at the public access on SW corner and heading out to the point NW of there. Thoughts? I like the contours/depth changes there and want to give the walleye’s a shot in that area. Otherwise, a long walk from the access!

Mark, maybe check the ice before you just start driving on it. The Cannon River flows through there and the southwest corner (not far from the access) is the area where it narrows back into a “river.” Technically the whole lake is more of a wide section of the river so there could be current just about anywhere.

I haven’t ice fished it, but the last time I was out there in the spring of 2019, I observed the water to be clearer than usual. Its also just not a very deep lake either so if you do make it out there, try to limit the noise.
