I just got back from a week long trip to Reed Lake in Manitoba. It was a great week of fishing. We caught a lot of Lake trout ( 28-32″ ) Was only able to catch 1 keeper size fish ( Have to be less than 25″ ) The walleye fishing was really good and easy. We caught our 12 fish limit to keep and take home in about 30 minutes with all fish from 18-21″ I could not even count how many eyes we caught for the week – In the 100’s for sure ( We did not fish for them all that often ) The Big Pike fishing was a bit tough. The party ended up with 7 fish over 40″ for the week. The biggest one was 44.5″. We caught 100’s of fish in the 30-34″ size – to many to count. I thought with the late ice out and cold water temps ( ice out May 23rd and water temps in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s we would do better on the big Pike. I guess we were a little to early after the spawn and the bigger fish were still not in the heavy feeding mood just yet. I think a week or little more later would have been a bit better. We did have a few follows of some really large fish ( In the 45-50″ range ) If you want a drive in trip ( 850 miles from Saint cloud ) I would put reed Lake on your trip list. The only down side is that other than one really expensive resort your only option is a campsite with no electricity or running water. I’ll try and attach a few picture to this post. There is a youtube video – Search reed lake Manitoba 2019 to watch it. if anyone ever wants some info. on reed lake let me know.
