Had a friend receive an email from a resort they have been going to for years. The email basically said they are seeing a spike in Canada apparently and there is talk the border could be closed until spring of 2022. Any one else hearing this? Was hoping to take my son on a graduation gift of a Canadian fishing trip next spring.

Canadian border not open until 2022??

I’m sorry but not even the leaders of these country’s know when it is going to happen. Sorry my crystal ball is not working either.
October 5, 2020 at 5:40 pm #1977552Have to imagine it will continue to be done in one month increments. A small family resort is but a fraction of Canada’s overall economy so they will be making decisions based on other factors including the fact that they mostly have it under relative control and we do not.
October 5, 2020 at 5:43 pm #1977554Absolutely no way to tell when recreational visitors will be allowed to cross the border.
I have in laws who live in Canada. Canada has relaxed some restrictions and will soon allow more family visitors, so there is progress. But still no way to tell when recreational visitors will be able to go again.
Believe me, I feel your pain.

October 5, 2020 at 7:01 pm #1977577My guess is that it will all hinge around when a vaccine is widely available. Even then, Im thinking there will be a lot of red tape or possibly a test result requirement (maybe a test at the border when you try to cross if they can develop a test with instant results?)
October 5, 2020 at 7:58 pm #1977585I don’t see that happening but maybe. That would totally kill there economy. Most resorts would be closed for good.

I read a while back that tourism makes up only 3% of the Canadian GDP.
Unfortunately I don’t think the prime minister cares much for the relatively small sector of resort owners (which is terrible, but it is what it is)
There’s going to be a lot of resorts for sale, a prime opportunity for someone willing to risk the capital…..
RipjiggenPosts: 11586October 5, 2020 at 8:14 pm #1977592Let’s do it B-Man you can bring the tuna boat for larger groups and I can take out the smaller groups. We already have 3 bait boys that can work the docks.
MnPat1Posts: 371October 5, 2020 at 8:19 pm #1977593Meanwhile travel to Mexico and Central America is either open or will be on November 1st. Lots of great affordable places to fish not in Canada.

X2. Canadian economy is doing surprisingly quite well…the border is open to commerce

If I had the time and a half mil laying around collecting dust I’d be all for it

Until the U.S. takes it seriously, it’s going to be closed. A rushed vaccine available to the masses in the middle of 2021 would fit the “not open until 2022” theory. Let’s hope we choose to get a handle on it as a country before then.

So travel and tourism sector accounts for 2.8 percent of US GDP. Unfortunately i don’t think the president cares much for the relatively small sector of resort owners (which is terrible, but it is what it is )
Are we talking about Trump? He has been pushing for an open border all summer long.
If were talking about the Candien premier I would agree he cares little about the mid country resort owners who are suffering in Canada

I agree, small business owners in nowhere, Canada make up an almost immeasurable part of their overall economy and likely play absolutely no role on whether the border will open back up to recreational travelers anytime soon.
There’s lots of lakes, resorts, and rivers open for business right here in MN and WI. Spend your time and American dollars there instead in the mean time.
bigpikePosts: 6259October 5, 2020 at 9:54 pm #1977617I agree
I’m all for supporting resort business in our back yard. They seem to be doing very well in my area and that is good. Canada stays closed it’s no problem for me. I’ll go when the open back up next year. The year after. WheneverB-manPosts: 5799October 5, 2020 at 10:16 pm #1977619<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>B-man wrote:</div>

The guy you’re promoting wants to lock down the entire country….Our resorts wouldn’t stand a chance either.
The alternative guy would like to keep things open and the economy rolling….Our resorts will continue to be booked.
Donny, have you been on any destination fishing trips this year?? (I doubt it….and you should keep hiding) But if you have, you’d have seen that it’s been a crazy year. U.S. resorts have been booked months out.

That is when the border isn’t closed. I know several other guys who have cabins on the Canadian side. What a joke. Guys not able to access their own property over the fear of a mild new strain of the cold.

Tell that to the two guys who took a flight for life to Marshfield this last week on the lake.

There are a lot of resorts up in NW Ontario for sale and that predates the pandemic. That industry has been struggling for years.
Chris NorlockPosts: 82October 6, 2020 at 9:45 am #1977658The classic…”heard it from a friend of a friend”…
Unless that friend of a friend is Justin Trudeau, this is a non-story.

This is trumps world now. No room for sensitivity and caring for others.

“C’mon man”
Sensitivity and caring, right, got it.
How sensitive and caring is somebody who says things like “if you don’t vote for me then you ain’t black”? Or how about “poor kids are just as bright as white kids” my favorite is, “unlike African American communities with notable exceptions, the latino community is very diverse community with incredibly different attitudes towards different things”
You can’t make this stuff up.
Your cheering for the wrong team my friend.
You’re cheering for the team that just spent the last few days hoping somebody would die from covid….
Sensitivity and caring. Ok.
