Question for those who know. I’m going on a trip to Snowbank Lake, northeast of Ely, MN over Labor Day weekend and the next week. Never been up there that time of year before. I normally go in the Spring. I believe I’ll be able to catch the SMB, LMB, and Northerns fine. I am not however a walleye fisherman outside of a couple great times of the year on the Mississippi. For Walleyes we will troll, vehicle jig, bobber fish, cast, whatever. Are leeches good that time of year? I like them because they are tough and easier to keep healthy than minnows or crawlers. Any other tips are welcome also.

    cheers

Probably wont find leaches that late in the year. I have no clue about your lake but would guess minnows on the humps

Can not transport live bait either as I’m sure you know.

I’ve never fished Snowbank but it’s probably similar to my favorite Gunflint Trail walleye lakes. I wish I could help but I really suck in September on those deep trout lakes. I haven’t spent much time trying to figure it out cause it’s hunting season. The walleyes I have caught in September have been on my same summer rock piles just deeper. If you can find a reef or point that stair steps down try the 30-40’ shelves.

Snowbank is not a border lake so no worries about bait. My guess is leeches won’t be available up there by Labor Day, but if it were me, I’d be trying to jig up some lake trout in September. Will you be fishing both the BWCA side and non B dub side?
The lake is a lot of rock structure. I’ve only fished it in winter for lakers out of Smittys so not familiar with it for eyes, but I would agree they will probably be deep.

Been a long time since I fished Snowbank in the fall, but we used to use crawlers and spinners or just lindy rig crawlers. I agree leeches will be tough to find that time of year. Pulling cranks shallow in the evening was good too. #5 shad raps or similar. If you are going into the BW side the second sister island can have some great walleye water around or near it.
