If you have a Canada fishing trip planned from now till Early June, You better verify the lake condition before going. Depending on where your heading and how far North you are going, There may still be ice. I was finally able to locate a source in the area we are heading ( Reed Lake North of the Pas ). He sent me picture from just a day ago and the lake were headed to still has ice almost tight to shore. With the current forecast he thinks the earliest it will be ice free is Memorial Day weekend. That is only 4 days before our scheduled arrival. Thankfully he’s going to be there several more times in the next few weeks and is going to keep me posted on the conditions. I’ve always wanted to time out trip closer to ice out, but this may be a little to close. We may end up pushing the trip back a week or so.

Where we go in N Manitoba, we typically go around June 15… ice goes out about a week earlier… might be later this year.

Cannot imagine what it will be like up there. We go to LOW mid June, but it appears to be completely open now. Wasnt looking good there for a while.
May 17, 2022 at 9:46 am #2124883I know the area where we are going had snow several days last week and their nighttime Hi’s are rather cool. Not much ice melting going on overnight.
May 18, 2022 at 9:47 am #212516714 Days till our original trip date. Here is what the lake looks like as of this morning. With the current forecast we just don’t think it will be gone. Even if it is, its way closer to ice out than we’d like. Made the decision to push the trip back by a week for now. The good news is the water temps should still be rather cool and the lake trout still shallow. Always fun to fish them in the shallower water on light gear. Also should still find some of the monster Pike in the shallower bays and sight fish them. That has not happened much is past trips.

May 18, 2022 at 11:13 am #2125210Headed to North arm of Rainy Friday morning. Ice out – yes.
Water levels historically high – yes.
Imagine we’ll spend a fair amount of our time making sure the docks are still there and stay put.
Water temp etc, who knows? But at least i’m on “vacation’May 18, 2022 at 1:20 pm #2125263N Manitoba today 05/18/2022
How far North in Manitoba is that picture from?
May 18, 2022 at 1:30 pm #212526560 miles north of Lynn Lake, MB. My outfitter is there today… flew into his main lodge and there is snow everywhere. Skis on the plane

Did the outfitter give you any idea of when he expected the ice to be gone in that area?

I wonder if that was the year the dock at the Sioux Narrows landing was under water. The year before it was at least 3 feet above the water.
May 18, 2022 at 1:43 pm #2125270He thinks it will be out in 2 weeks… once it starts going, with the long days of sun beating it down, it goes quicker than around here… I say more like 3 weeks, but he is the expert.

The guy keeping a eye on the ice conditions where we are heading ( A 100 miles or more south of your area ) says he thinks the ice may go out around Memorial Day weekend. He said the current forecast with rather cool night temps is not helping. I do see a fair amount of rain in their forecast so that should help.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Water is very high here right now. Kids are out of school sandbagging. There were 20 trucks and trailers in line Saturday getting pallets of sandbags. Water is licking at the foundations, just hope we don’t get big winds now.
I have a guy coming to look at the boat Sunday, he wanted to know if he could test drive it. I said I didn’t know it would depend if we could find a landing with a dock above water.May 18, 2022 at 5:25 pm #2125341Are you flying into one of Russ’s camps?
We’re going to LBZ lake 6-17 to 6-27
Ever been to that lake?
DougMay 19, 2022 at 8:19 am #2125438I have been to LBZ but never fished it… just to drop off some stuff. I have fished Brisebois, Mahekun, Vanderkechove, Wachi and Carlson. My favorite is Brisebois. Been going to Russ’s fly ins for 20 years, can’t beat em !
