Canada or Northern MN Ice Fishing Adventure

    Hi guys,

I was up in the northwest angle last week for 3 days. The fishing was pretty slow but ok. We stayed at Sportsman’s on Oak Island. It’s a nice place, and the staff was really top notch in every way. Despite the slow bite, we had a great time.

I’d like to know what else is out there for an ice adventure like the one I just did. My dad is 70, and he wants to fish in a heated hard shack. He also likes the bomber transportation to and from the shack each day. This limits our options, but I thought I’d reach out to see what you all know.

I looked online at a few in Nester Falls, Ontario. Not sure if all of them offer hard shacks. Sunsets offers a guided “run and gun” day trip into Canada. They also have hard shacks. I’d like to keep the drive to no farther than Oak Island in the angle.

Please share a destination if you have one to offer.

    Thanks guys!!

You should check out Devil’s Lake, ND. Our group was out there 2 weeks ago and had a great trip. We went through Bry’s Guide Service.
We fished both days out of their Sno-Bears and caught nice fish both days. The first day we chased walleyes and the second day we went for perch.
The Sno-Bears are very comfortable to fish out of and Bry’s guides were great.

Do the same trip in December. Fishing will be better then, probably.

Does Bry’s Bay have heated hard shacks, and transportation to and from them each day? Is a snow bear like a Bomber? Until my dad decides to quit going, that’s what he likes. I prefer to go off on my own, but it is what it is for now.

Here’s another question for all of you…Whether we go to Devils lake or LOTW, what is the best time to go? We were just at Sportsmans on Oak Island. We arrrived there on the 22nd of Feb. We left for home on the 26th. When we arrived, they were honest with us and said the fishing has been slow. Low oxygen levels I guess.

    Thoughts? Thanks all…!

So let me be more clear about what we are looking for, so you can better help if you can.

We will go next year with 4 to 8 guys. We want transportation to and from a heated hard shack each day. We will stay at our lodge for 4 nights and fish 3 full days. We want to stay in a cabin or some sort of lodge setting. We don’t need a resturant. We can cook for ourselves just fine.

    Thanks to all.

Kevin…fishing out of a Sno-Bear is like fishing out of a mobile hard shack. In my opinion it’s a better option. A Sno-Bear is like a Bomber you can fish in. If the fish aren’t biting in one spot the guide moves to another! I don’t know if Bry’s have hard shacks.

Check out this Sno-Bear video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5nfQo8uuaw

The Sno-Bear has enough room for 4 guys and is heated and comfortable. We went to Devil’s Lake with 8 guys and had 2 Sno-Bears.
Bry’s has a house we rented that had room for all 8 guys. It had a kitchen and big screen TV in the living area.
Another plus for Bry’s is they clean all the fish and that was a plus the day we came back with 125 jumbo perch.

It was our 1st time using Bry’s and we’ll use them again when back at Devil’s Lake.

Bry’s and snobears are the way to go on Devil’s Lake. They will put you on the fish.
middle of February is tough fishing anywhere you go. Book your trip for December January or march.
