Canada-compliant Night Crawlers – Where to get?

What’s the best place to get some night crawlers that are properly packed for transport into Canada (Ontario)? I’m in the East Metro, but if mail order is better, I guess that’s ok.

Also, for those of you guys who have transported crawlers into Canada, am I setting myself up for a massive hassle? Is saying “yes” to the live bait question going to assure me of getting the pull over and the full meal deal search?

I want to take some live bait, but I do NOT want a massive hassle and an extra wasted hour spent getting disassembled at the border.

    Many thanks.

Nope not a big deal at all. All you need to do is have them packed in paper, not dirt. I’m not sure on the east metro, I only have West Metro connections. Almost everybody has them, as they can order flats from their dealer packed in paper.

Cold Spring Deer Park about 35 miles south of International Falls. They are right on Hwy. 53 on the Right side when going North. I know you have seen them before. Tell them you need Canadian pack crawlers.

At the border indicate you bought Canadian pack crawlers and you will be good to go.

I just order them from lucky’s bait and pick them up before I cross at Baudette.
Just tell the border agents you have crawlers packed in paper.
    Never had an issue.

You could call Vados in Spring Lake Park. I’m sure they can take care of you.

Otherwise just transfer them to artificial bedding (Buss bedding) with as little dirt on them as possible of you can’t find them already in paper. And when crossing say “Yes, crawlers in artificial bedding.” Has never caused me trouble.

Thanks for the input. We will be arriving in Frostbite Falls late (after 11 PM) so not sure that we can do a pick up at one of the up north places that late at night.

Will call that joint in Harris and see what they can do. That would be on the way.

I was at Fleet Farm yesterday and they had them for $40 for either 200 or 250 count. Still need the bedding because they were in dirt but another option for you.

Cabela’s have always packed ours for Canada. Don’t know how far Rogers MN is from you.

The funny thing about night crawlers is a lot of the commercial crawlers come from Canada anyway. They are able to send their dirt here but won’t take it back. I know a guy who used to work for Cabelas and that was one of the worst jobs he had to do. Those crawlers came directly from Canada, they would unpack them, clean the Canadian dirt off, and throw them in American newspaper and the next day be back in Canada.

We can take care of your “canada” crawlers ofr you as well. Just give us a call and we will get them ready for you before you go. We carry flats on hand and only need a little heads up to have them washed and ready for you. Thanks, Chris Winchester
