Compare the specs between the two first.

Ha ya kind of a dumb question I guess -I figured that would be the answer I got- just figured I’d ask since my luck with boats has been rather bad the past few years and didn’t want to have something stupid happen with my new boat on the first weekend of use!!

I’m in NW MN- I went to the nearest powersports store (30 miles away) and they were all out of yamalube but had Mercury oil, they guy told me ” ya it will work it’s all the same — no problem” .

TC-W3 is what most modern 2 strokes require. Walmart usually has some.

Some guys insist upon using brand-specific oil, but I have been pleased with Pennzoil Marine XLF synthetic blend. If using a Yamaha oil doesn’t matter to you, Pennzoil is pretty affordable at Walmart.

“PENNZOIL MARINE® XLF SYNTHETIC BLEND 2-CYCLE OUTBOARD ENGINE OIL EXTENDED LIFE FORMULA
Pennzoil Marine® XLF Extended Life Formula TC-W3® Outboard 2-Cycle Synthetic Blend Oil was developed for engines that are “seasoned” or have been in service for a few years. The robust formulation makes Marine® XLF Extended Life Formula TC-W3® Outboard 2-Cycle Synthetic Blend Oil also very suitable for new high-displacement/horsepower carbureted or direct injection outboard motors.”
