As Of Thurs No Dock Slow For Us About Fifteen Small Walleye Fished 1-7. Seemed The River Was Moving. They May Have Changed Rollers Because As We Arrived There Was A Ton Of Debris Stuck In The Eddy By Lock. But As Day Went On It Cleared Out completetly. Was Lots Of Trees And grass. Dont Forget Bait As No Bait Shop In Town. Water Temp Was 37

Thanks for the update. They now charge you $5 per landing or $25 a year for landing. I pay the $25 a year yet I’m unable to go fishing by myself because there is no dock. I’m not parking my boat on the cement or the rocks. Very discouraging they can’t get the dock in there.

Sorry I had to vent but I think it is BS that they can’t put in.

    Good luck everyone, tight lines.

I Was Un Believing thEn. But Proven When Arived Thurs No Docks And Not Much for Excuses To Not Have them in.

X2! Not only that the dock is not in but no sand at boat landing. It does get iced up early in the spring. I think for $5.00 a day or it is NOW $30.00 a year they could have a 55 Gallon drum of sand there. I agree no excuses for it.

Historically they wait till after the high water so they don’t put it it in and out twice, no high water threat this year i bet it goes in this week. I like it this way more room, but I don’t have a boat that I,m afraid to get scratched, like to use em and abuse em without worry.

Forgot, they broke the ice out twice this year with a backhoe so people could get out, I think they do pretty good for a small town, need to cut them some slack. Not alot of people working.

I can agree with what you are saying. We were promised things would be done by this landing fee and I have been making calls and visits to the city in order to ensure things are getting attention. I think the biggest thing is that they need to hear from other people the issues that we want fixed. Plowing the landing out is usually the biggest peave of mine. They plow half of it out and don’t do it every time it snows, which means there is a mess to take care of when we really need to use it. I talked to the new mayor last week for 25 minutes and I explained to him that there needs to be a list of expectations for the city crew to do on this landing. If there is going to be a fee imposed like there is, I have no problem with it as long as they take care of their business. They need to set the standards and do a better job. I.E. (Plow the whole parking lot out each time to stay ahead, plow the landings out away from the ice so the melt off will leave quicker, Leave a drum of salt and sand down by the landing). As long as that is done I don’t have any problems; however, that hasn’t been the case the last two years. Last year it took several phone calls to get that landing open and 3 of my buddies cut it open. Last year the parking lot was half plowed out which congested the parking up there. This year I borrowed a buddy’s plow truck to “finish” plowing out the landing as to how it should have been plowed out to begin with. Slack was being cut to them with no fee, with a fee I don’t feel a need for slack to be cut. I also was/am for the fee as long as those items were/are done.

I think their collecting a lot of money and not doing anything different then they used to. Before charging I didn’t have expectations of them. But now that they are pulling a lot of money, I expect upkeep. Until they take care of business I will not spend a dime in Alma even though I go through there many, many times a year.

I agree, will all of you who have input please leave it here and I will get it to the right people to read. A list of suggestions/expectations that you would like to see for the landing would be great. Remember to be positive as we all want this to be fixed and maybe they will look at our suggestions and find ways to make them happen.

Being from MN I use the NEW West Newton ramp for free. When Alma decided to get in my pockets I made the switch to the MN side. I always liked launching at the Alma ramp but it was never a cash cow like it is now.

1)Barrel of sand in the spring
2)Keep plowed when it needs it
3)As far as putting dock in that’s a decision to be made depending on the spring and water conditions.

No problem with the fee it is nice to have a decent landing. These few thing should be addressed though.

I agree war eagle…maybe they should form a committee as an an advisory to the council for concerns and updates, no fisherman on that council right now, can’t think of one person that would use it, or employees maintaining it..heard they will be paving the ramp this summer.

Wasn’t there a list of things they would do after the fee was implemented? Maybe just stick to that…

Maybe I’m wrong on this and correct me if I am but doesn’t the dock float up and the down the poles in the landing. If it doesn’t they need to have one that raises and lowers with the water fluctuation. Landing by myself is difficult without the dock especially when it is busy this time of year. You can pull it up on the sand throw out an anchor as there is nothing to tie off to, walk way around to get to your truck. In the mean time people have to wait for me to do this so I won’t land this way.

Was there last night, no dock.

Yes, poles permanently installed and dock slides up/down with the pool.

No idea why it isn’t in. No idea why salt/sand was NOT available during the early season. No idea why the landing and parking lot isn’t plowed when there are people that pay to use the landing.

    No idea, period.

When the water goes up you can’t use it anyway unless you walk in the water to get to it..there is an extension but not long enough…I have seen the walkway catch when the water drops and buckle the whole thing, plus all the debris that catches around it when the crap comes down river, anyone that uses it alot has noticed that eddy is a magnet, no danger this year. It should be in now, maybe they can’t get to it the lot is overflowing everyday, not only on weekends, it is stored by the guardrail by the tracks.Obviously the fee is not keeping the crowds away…busier this year during the week than I have ever seen. better be there by 8AM or you can’t find a place to park. Late afternoon and evening is better.

more I think about it the more I like an advisory committee to the council on use issues…could also oversee where the money is spent….I want to see improvement not same old…

The dock issue is only scratching the surface of issues in Alma. I no longer will host tournaments in this city either.

I loved coming to Alma- my anglers would spend a significant sum of money on motels and fuel as well as patronize local businesses. Often staying many days and nights. I found out via another bass circuit director the Mayor came to one of their weigh-ins to request their “event fee”. Apparently he was told he needed to purchase a $200 permit to host a tournament if using the landing at the marina or the main landing in town.

From what I understand the Mayor was not pleasant about this in any fashion and really gave this event director a hard time.

I really find this disturbing and “small minded” on welcome feelings to new people who come to your community. Many of these anglers return and vacation and recreate with their friends and family after their first visit.

We hosted a season Championship and many, many events there in the first few years of our MMWS walleye circuit. Now if we wish to fish Pool 5 we will use the Belveidier Landing on the north side of Buffalo City. It’s within a few miles of the dam, has adequate parking, and no $5 charge per boat for services not rendered to those paying. Also the businesses are very welcoming to us and no “event fees” are expected.

Fountain City charges a fee and so do they here in LaCrosse. Both municipalities “get it” as they put the funds into bathrooms, wash stations, upkeep, dock renovations / improvements, resurfacing, and a host of great things for it’s users. I’m 110% in favor of the cause in this instance and buy yearly fees at both for this reason.

Too bad the leaders in Alma have become so narrow minded and dropped the ball for those who wish to come to visit their community.

Hopefully this changes so we can come back again in the future.

Nothing about this post is true. Please get all the facts and both sides of the story before posting. No fee was ever requested and is never requested by the City Of Alma, only fee I know of is a DNR fee. The issue was with a FLW Bass
that set up there weigh in site on the beach, which is a bouy restricted swim area which you can not operate a motorized craft in according to state law. They were told to stay away from the beach by the City Clerk. Many false stories circulated about this fee which is not true. The only thing the city wants is cooperation for all users so there are not conflicts with swimmers, little league, and recreational boaters. By the way FLW web site listed tourney headquarters as Wal Mart Winona, a motel in Winona for suggested lodging, nothing about Alma, other than the Alma Marina which is a private business. Launch fee was not even in effect at that time. I know the full story because I was the Mayor in question.

And I am not bashing any group or the FLW, they are a fine organization, so if I came off that way I apologize, there has to be consideration for all users of parks and landings, and respect for the hosting communities wishes, agreeing with them or not. Just ticks one off when third hand info is thought of as gospel. Still love Alma even if not mayor anymore, didn’t run again in 2014, hard job, worse than being a police officer which I did over 30 years.

By the way, the dock is in as of yesterday, and yes it is about time.
