Camera System for Monitoring Elderly Adults

I’m looking for a recommendation for a camera system to help monitor elderly people that are still relatively independent and mobile. I want a system that has the following features:

    1. Multiple cameras to allow viewing for a few rooms or different parts of rooms. I think I would need 3-4 cameras to cover most of the area the person could be.
    2. Ability to see live views on an Apple phone and possibly a tablet or Alexa. Desired to be able to view multiple camera views on the screen of an Apple I-Phone.
    3. I would like the camera views to be able to be viewed by multiple Apple phones. For example, I want the ability for me, my sister and mom to all be able to see the views simultaneously on our phones.
    3. Two-way audio.
    4. Wired cameras. Indoor use.
    5. Recording is not needed, either locally or on the cloud.
    6. The WiFi router is 2.4 GHz.
    7. No subscription fees.

I looked around on the web and there seems to be a lot of options and it gets to be a bit confusing sorting out all the options. I’ve been told that Wyze cameras might have a system that checks all the boxes. Thanks.

We do quite a bit as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and Simply Safe has performed well for us.

I just use some basic Wyze cameras. I have a couple outside and a couple with movable cameras inside. I’ve used them to yell at my dad to wake up, get out of the recliner, and check his food in the kitchen before. Also to check to see if the power at their house was out and had come back on yet. They are probably the cheapest and you get like 24 hours rewind without a subscription.

We use Wyze as a baby monitor and I think that would work for your needs too. Wife and I both have the app on our iPhones, two way audio, not sure how multi-cams work since we just have the one.

Blink also would be a good option.

Although not for the same application of monitoring elderly people, Simplisafe has been good for us. The “Pros” are that it’s super easy to set up, and the door/window open chimes are awesome with little kids running around. I have one exterior camera mounted facing the driveway above the garage, and another interior camera in the garage. The only “Con” I can think of is that the cameras aren’t super fast to pick up motion and begin recording it if you want it as documented surveillance.

They only record when the system is armed.

Eufy is what I’ve used . Wired , easy to set up . No subcription fees . Think the cameras were 59 dollars .

We use Ring cameras at home. One at the front door, one in the garage, and one in the kitchen/dining area. All able to live view from my phone at any time.

At the cabin we use Reolink. The nice thing about them is that there is no subscription. You have to put a micro SD card in the camera and have it hooked up to WiFi, but they work great. Get motion alerts on your phone, records for up to 15 seconds at a time, can be looked at live on my phone or iPad. They even have a microphone and speaker so I can hear what is going on and/or talk through the camera if I have to.

Don’t ever unarm the system and you won’t have any issues. Wouldn’t just about every camera/provider option have the ability to unarm it (i.e. turn it off)?

If they are always armed I would get a message every second of the day with the kids and dog running around.

Again, how is that different than any other brand camera? not isolated to blink. You can very easily silence notifications if, for example, the kids and dogs are running around in the area.

Whats important to me is 24/7 coverage with either a cloud or local storage option. For my purposes, a security camera isn’t worth having if its not saving the clips. Let’s say a stranger pulls into your driveway and tries to kidnap your kid while your kid and dogs are running around (in your example). I still want to have the video clip recorded and saved. With some cameras, you can have it automatically disable recording if you’re home which seems silly to me.

The op said no recording needed

Thanks for the information. I ordered a four-camera system from LaView. It seemed to have the features I wanted and generally good reviews. I’ll post how I like it after I set it up.

I won’t use this system for security in the sense that I’m worried about theft or vandalism. I just want to be able to check on dad to make sure he’s doing okay.

With Ring you can utilize both motion detector modules and the motion detectors on cameras. Simply by looking at the app on your phone you can see which sensors have seen motion. That alone would be good reassurance that everything is okay if you see motion in the kitchen motion in the living room etc.

You can also set Ring to record anytime one of the indoor cameras detects motion. Then the recordings are also available from the web app for review. Or you can switch to live view and see what’s happening live. Obviously there is also audio with the video so you can talk through the camera.

Ring also offers panic buttons that can be mounted throughout the house. For my mother-in-law we have mounted a panic button in the bathroom where it is in reach of the shower so if she were to fall she could reach the panic button. We’ve also placed one in her bedroom.

Been using Ring for the last 4 years with my dad. As grouse mentioned, the panic buttons work flawlessly. Requires monitoring, but it’s cheap. Best part of panic buttons is you designate who gets contacted. We don’t emergency responders , so we simply set it for me, then daughter, then my wife. Iowa boy got to witness the simplicity for us. Dad fell this morning while I was in Iowa. In two minutes, I was notified, contacted neighbor, and he pulled and helped dad.

The two way audio is perfect when dad forgets how to use his phone.

I also have an Alexa at the farm. Dad can simply “Alexa call Randy” and it calls me
