Your thoughts on the Mega compared to regular side imaging? Planning on adding a SI unit over the winter and the Helix 9 Mega seems to be calling my name. But wanted to hear from others that have used it. Is all the hype real? Thanks

Yes, it’s a night and day difference.

X2 Mega is much better. In the spring swapped a 898 SI for a Helix 9 and the difference is amazing.

There is a significant difference in the clarity of the “old” version SI and the new MEGA. Specifically I noticed a difference in depicting structure/bottom transitions, as well as crazy cool fish profile shadows.

Below are a couple of muskies hanging out and another of a walleye on a breakline. After a while of using the SI the body profiles start to become more and more obvious as to what species it likely is.(knowing the fish in your body of water makes a difference as well) Really cool stuff!!!

Couple pics from us at SBC Chippewa that ran Mega’s this year.

I’ll throw this opinion out there…I have a Gen 1 Helix 10 SI, now do I think the G2 MEGA SI units provide a better image? sure…but how good do you truly need it to be? I use this analogy, with Gen 1 SI say I can clearly see there’s a set of rocks on the lake bottom, with the MEGA SI maybe I can now tell that there’s some moss on top of those same rocks, does that look cool? sure, but does knowing there’s moss on rocks really help you catch bigger fish? probably not… The MEGA Si will also probably show small fish holding tight to cover better than a regular SI model can, but I don’t want to catch small fish….

If you look at the current Gen 1 vs Gen 2 prices, it’s about a 50% price increase to get Gen2…something else to think about…

Worth every penny. No different than upgrading a rod, reel, outboard, trolling motor. The best technology is worth it. If you spend 20 grand for a boat why would you skimp on the accessories?

not everybody spends $20k+ on a boat…I’ve read tons of threads asking for input of what electronics to get with a limited budget…

If you can interpret Gen1 SI screens well, then the MEGA isn’t that much of an improvement…it’s like comparing a 720 vs 1080 LCD TV, yes you can easily tell the 1080 is sharper, but the 720 display still looks fine…

Pretty darn cool. Maybe gen 3 will tell me what bait or lure to use as well and if the fish is hungry or not lol.
