My apologies Don for my confusion. I thought that you were responding to the subject of the OP about boycotting Smithfield driven by their recent child labor law problems.

Pork is the main food staple in China. They stock pile it by the mega tons. Lots of people to feed. They could cut us off of pork products at any time. We are food chain vulnerable in this country. The family farm is virtually gone and prime agricultural land is either being purchased by China or is being used for solar farms and windmills.
And then there is the putting our food in our gas tanks idea which is brilliant. People don’t realize how fast we could get to empty grocery store shelves and starving in this country. Covid has screwed the supply chain for many things and it seems to be permanent. People have already easily accepted that somethings take forever to get if at all and cost has doubled. Keep your pantries and freezers full as much as possible.
We still control all ways to get anything out of this country. Food will never be used as a weapon against this country as long as the armed forces stay strong.
Wrong audience. People that live in apartments or paycheck to paycheck aren’t going to buy a quarter beef and certainly can’t afford a freezer. My point is that Smithfield fills a niche for lower income families. You make valid points but your solution doesn’t fit this demographic.
Are you saying the demographic of this group or of the country as a whole are living in apartments and living from paycheck to paycheck. I get the feeling often that you believe there are only the rich and the poor in this country. There is a large group of people inbetween those two groups. Far more people who you believe are to poor to afford a freezer and a 1/4 of beef could do so if they cut out a lot of the other silly crap they spend their money on

You really have no idea what I believe so don’t speculate.
If you think that a large swath of the American public is going to buy a freezer and purchase meat in bulk to save a few bucks I completely disagree with that.

Not so sure about that , you forget the trade war with china over soybeans , and we lost ! Us taxpayer paid farmers 28 billion in aid , half of that went to soybean farmers under trump . That was the top expenditure under Trump in his last term . Going to war over food will only end badly for everyone.

I think his point was people who live in apartments or apartments that identify as condo’s, won’t be adding a chest freezer. Nor that people who live in the city will be finding a farmer not in the city, to get beef or pork from. It works great for those of us able to do it, but that’s just not feasible for the majority of Americans who live in big cities and apartments/condos, regardless of income status.

It just doesnt make sense for a lot of people. I have an upright freezer and a fridge/freezer in the garage and both are already full along with the one in the house. I am not buying more, I have no more room unless I really clean out the garage. Now the root cause of most of our full freezer space is my wife just hitting reorder instead of looking at what we already have and we now have 37 bags of frozen peas, etc.

Probably the funniest thing I’ll see all day

ANd trust me when I say this I am only slightly exaggerating.
We are super fortunate to have our family running a dairy farm. I process my own pork and venison at home. All of our hamburger comes from young steers that they raise with the ladies at the farm.
However even though we have a freezer loaded up we still consume some commercial meats from restaurants, fast food and the grocery store. So will consider my family an independent hybrid consumer.. HAHA..
Fortunately, we have a niece and her husband who operate a 100% certified Organic Farm, where they not only raise their own crops for feed, but also raise Old Stock Highland Cattle, Legacy Hogs, Chickens (layers & broilers) and Sheep. Keeps our freezers & fridge full of good eating ! (they also grow the grains for a local distillery in Faribault)
