Cable vs. Hydraulic Steering

  • #1615816

Looking for feedback on upgrading from cable steer to hydraulic steer on 18.5 Stratos with 150 Evinrude. Cable steer seems really stiff especially at lower speeds. Everything checks out just fine?

    Thanks!

How old is the cable? It is usually pretty easy to replace the cable but upgrading to hydraulic would be totally worth it.

Cable = manual steering and hydraulic = power steering. There is no comparison in performance and ease of steering between the 2. The hydraulic does come with some maintenance issues. The rear seals tend to leak after a few years and need to be replaced but not extremely difficult to do.
