This guy stopped in at the cabin every day, morning and evening and often thru the day. That feeder post to his right is 4 1/2 feet tall for reference. He’s pretty healthy and is somewhere in the 230-250 range right now. Should be a real porker come bear season. Friendly fella too….we could be in the yard doing our chores and he’d just sit and dine on sunflower seed and corn.

This guy went nocturnal about mid August and stayed that way all thru the hunting season and well into late fall. We got a glimpse of him at night in late September and October and he looked to be over 300 then. And some of the sightings were AFTER the hunting season. It’ll be interesting what he’ll look like this year.

We stopped by the cabin to check on things the first week of December and found what I believe to be his tracks in the snow. It was real hard to tell for certain with some melting happening but the tracks were huge. This one was missing a toe but I couldn’t tell in the snow if those track were short a toe or not. Dry ground would have been no problem. Beautiful boar bear though.

It’s amazing how they seem to be able to “sense” when the hunting season starts. Same with some deer, especially bigger bucks. Probably just had to do with them seeing/hearing more people in the woods preparing for hunting.

The grandson hangs cameras up there for the warm months but there aren’t any there right now. Been pretty cool yet so its doubtful that the bear are coming out of dens. Maybe on real warm days but the don’t get very far from the den. April is when we start seeing activity. May can be a good month for seeing bear. They can sure look tough coming out of the dens. The one in the above picture was most likely looking for girl friend…bear breed in June.
