Funny watching the price comparison shopping here but when it comes to Rapala ya pay what ya gotta pay. jester

How can I catch fish to feed my family if I don’t have 500 crankbaits, 25 rods, a Ranger and a livescope?

It is cheaper to buy a Rapala after buying the components and spending the time to make a crank bait. Not true for food where it is cheaper to grow your own. Fishing brings food to the table lowering the cost of the lure. Well at least that is what I tell myself. I also only buy lures when they are on sale (comparison shopping) or just lost that one I have to have. What I put into my body is not as important as what I put on the end of my rod.

Long gone are the days of the $5 footlong or dollar menu at McD’s chased

Does Byerly’s still carry Thielen’s bacon? They used to at about 2x the cost straight from the source.

As far as Rapala’s go, I have so many that have never seen the water, that I just add Berkeley Flicker Minnows/Shads to the end of that list rotflol

Not sure where you live in Minneapolis, if you are southeast try the Richfield Target just north of Crosstown off Cedar. They do a decent job and I’ve had good luck with the produce.

they do off and on and that bacon is so good ive actually considering paying the price some days. i will go to theilen’s once every 3 months and stock up. Thankfully i still have a few lbs shrink wrapped in the freezer. In fact im making brinner with some of it tonight.

I agree with everyone else about Subway too. Personally i think subway makes some of the worst sandwhiches out there so i dont waste my time but my wife and kids love it. Always ticks me off when she says they went to subway and i look at the account and it was like $45. I could cook an amazing meal at home with $45

That’s the normal price in the middle of winter.

$70/pound for king crab is not normal.

    Really?

    Really?

Yes, really. Strawberry season is in the summer, not the winter. They are primarily grown in the southwest part of the country. They closely follow watermelon season and that is also more expensive in the winter.

I mean common sense would say they cost more in the winter, but 7$ is a normal winter price? I thought that was really high

When you have a 6 YO that inhales strawberries like our does you realize how expensive they get. I agree $6-7 in the winter is the norm.

You can get a better deal at Costco but the minute we buy stuff like produce in bulk she immediately stops liking them.

Yeah Matt that’s the blessing/curse of buying food in bulk- saves money but then you get sick of it! Unless you have a lot of mouths to feed or can freeze/store a lot of it…

And I agree all the stores are better for certain things than others. Walmart is usually the lowest price on a lot common goods, no doubt. But can’t shop there for everything

In college on Sundays you could get 2 footlongs for $6, find a buddy and you could get dinner for $3.

Lunch today was a PB&J with some fruit. Dinner was eggs with theilen meat bacon bought in bulk from the butcher. Probably cost less than $10 to feed my whole family of 5 today.

Food doesn’t have to cost a lot. I’d appreciate it if they would stop raising the price on beer though!

Byerly’s and Kowalskis effing rule…you couldn’t pay me to go shop at a Cub, Walmart or Target for groceries.

If you watch Byerly’s they do a ton of bogo sales. And, Kowalskis has the best damn monster cookies in town.

They are both spendy but ya get what ya pay for.

have you had the monster cookies at target!! they are the reason i weight what i do. I dont mind shopping at target for groceries. In fact i think target provides the best balance of quality and value for groceries

Go to Kowalskis and get the take and bake ones. Amazing.

I’ll try the target ones. There isn’t a cookie I won’t try. The targets by us in s MPLS are just terrible. They never have anything in stock. We’ve basically stopped shopping there in general. It’s been an issue for a few years now. The produce always looks like it fell off the back of the truck.

There is a Kowalskis not far from me too but ive only been in there once. Ill have to give those cookies a try

Here’s the biggest reason for crab being so high this year. The population in the Bering Sea has crashed. A clear case of supply and demand.

$2.50 at Aldis. I bet a family of 4 could save thousands by just shopping at Aldis. been shopping there for at least 5 years. i do get to my hyvee once in a while for a few things but $100 at Aldis would be about $250 at hyvee.

Is that right? I knew that’s where most of them came from but I didn’t know there was an issue with their population. Sure enough, water temperature is to blame.

I have also noticed the high price at Subway. I eat gluten free and sometimes if I didn’t bring a lunch I will get a salad at subway for lunch, not anymore. Last time a salad, chips and drink cost me 15 bucks!

Swung into a Jimmy Johns in Duluth today for lunch. Got a sandwich, chips and pop for almost $13. Noticed their bread loaves have shrunk a bit since the last time I was at one.

We tried Aldi’s about ten years ago and it was rotten. However, I’ve heard nothing but good things from people about them recently. There is one next to the Lund’s on 62 and Penn. Might need to pop in.

Do you still need a quarter for the cart though?
