I’ll throw a few “factual numbers” in for my current pickup. A 2001 1/2 ton Silverado bought in early 2014. We’ll call it 5 years of ownership, but I’m a couple months shy of that.

    Price: $5500
    Sales Tax: $350
    Tires: $500
Tran Flush, coolant flush, spark plugs, brake pads: $500

Total cost at purchase: Round up to $7000

Additional costs in almost 5 years of ownership…
    Interest: $0
    Battery: $100
    Tires: $500
    Power Window Motor: $250
    Tabs: $35*(5 years) = $175
    Insurance: $550*(5 years) = $2750

Total cost in 5 years: Round up to $4,000
    Total purchase price + 5 years: $11,000

Current KBB Private Party value: $4,300
    Current NADA Average Trade-In: $3,300

I’ve driven this truck on dozens of trips over the last 5 years and never thought twice about mechanical issues ruining the trip or not making it home. Mostly fishing trips to Ontario & Manitoba both winter and summer, and waterfowl hunting in ND basically every weekend of the fall the first couple years I had it.

I’m really curious what guys with new trucks are paying for sales tax, tabs, interest, and insurance.

2014 Toyota Tundra bought new May 2014. I have 120k miles on it and plan to drive it to 180k. $.20-$.22 per mile is my best estimate. Thats initial price with ttl, interest, tabs, insurance, less resale.

i’ve been told to think twice about buying a ford. i’ve been told to think twice about buying a dodge, i’ve been told to think twice before buying a chevy. They all have issues and quirks. effectively these 3 companies have perfected the truck to some extent. I’m just trying to buy the first year of a body style or the 1st year of a major motor change, and i’ve always had decent luck.

LOL…So you were smart and went with a Toyota?

tundra’s in that year/mileage range are 1-2k higher which for me is a possibility but i’ve also been told to avoid those ones too. go figure. i can also find titans int hat range for a grand cheaper. but the gas mileage on them seems to be super crappy.
