Im trying hard to buy into all the hype about this kid, but I dont see it. They have him batting lead-off, I think their jumping the gun a little putting him in the 1 spot.

I said the same about Hicks. They had to send Hicks back down a couple of times but before he got hurt it seemed he gets it. Buxton is a kid yet, I think the more at bats he gets this year the better he will be next year. One thing he has is speed, once he figures out how to just put the ball in play he should be OK.
Nice sweep of the Orioles this weekend. They got lucky, but then you need some luck in the game also.
FryDog62Posts: 3696August 23, 2015 at 5:47 pm #1561048He sure doesn’t have the confidence that Sano had coming up the first time. But most don’t. He’ll develop and improve…if he can stay healthy.
August 24, 2015 at 9:28 am #1561139Buxton has ALL the tools, he just hasn’t put it all together at the pro’s yet….it takes some players a little longer to develop, we’re getting spoiled with how well Sano has transitioned, it’s rare it happens like that….
Twins most glaring need is at Shortstop, hopefully some of our younger SS prospects can make the jump quickly…
The Twins future looks bright, just sad that we’ll most likely not be able to afford them when they hit their prime, I’m sure the Yankees and Redsox have them targeted on their boards 4-5 years down the road…
August 24, 2015 at 9:36 am #1561146We need to remember they call these kids “prospects” and not “pro players” for a reason. Not all will make it. Remember the kid last year who hit all the homeruns, people were talking about him like he was the next coming of Ortiz. Last I heard he is in Double A ball.
Terry Ryan needs to get better at what he does real quick. He needs to identify the kids who will make it and trade the kids who won’t while they have value. Tough job, but it is his job.
This season has been more fun then past seasons for sure. Lets hope they keep improving.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22813August 24, 2015 at 1:18 pm #1561249Id hate to lose Sano. It was brought up on KFAN last week what about signing him to a 10 year deal right now? At first I chuckled and the ridiculousness about it, but after thinking about it a bit, it does make some sense. Offer the kid $80M for 10 years. Yeah, it might be overpaying for a couple years on his rookie deal, but heck, the last 5 could be a bargain. You are taking a chance BIG time, but if he does develop we cannot compete with the likes of the Yankees or Red Sox in money. It would hate to see some of these guys go. There has to be a better way to secure some of these guys that we draft/trade for and develop.
August 24, 2015 at 2:44 pm #1561278Cpt. Musky that’s not a bad idea. The devil’s advocate could say that Sano could just be having a rockstar year and once pitchers figure him out he’ll never have a year like this. However I don’t think that’ll be the case.
It’s funny you mention that because my family and I were talking about Sano just yesterday and I said I’m already scared to lose him. Let’s all be honest, it’s not the “Twins way” to give a star their payday. I know we did that with Mauer but we all know that’s a different story. Think about Johan Santana. It’s very rare that of all the pro sports teams you can say that we had the best player at a certain position at a given time, but we did with Santana. Instead of paying him and building around him we got rid of him. I’m afraid Sano’s value will skyrocket and the Twins will make a major deal for him, getting 5 prospects who’ll never add up to the one guy we gave up.
August 24, 2015 at 3:53 pm #1561303I think they have 6 years of control left on Sano. I don’t see any hurry in signing him. Wait until year 4 or so before his arbitration numbers get crazy. What will you all say if he gets hurt? Keeps eating and ends up like Sandoval in Boston and eats himself out of the league? I agree he might be the real deal but the Twins have time and I don’t know how much they would save anyway. If you were his agent would you take less then $100 for 5 years? Thats only $20 million a year. My guess is the negotiations would START around $200 million for 10 years.
My vote is wait and see, but then it’s not my money.
