I’ve had my 9mm handgun for several years now, but I’ve not spent time shooting and getting confident with it. It’s time I do. I want to buy a larger quantity of ammo for it. I know there are some online places to get better prices. What would be some good target ammo? And where would have the beat deal?

There are lots of online stores that you can find bulk quantities. Personally I just buy a box or two here and there from fleet farm when it’s on sale. A lot of times they will have sales for $8-10 a box. Also depends if you want to shoot only brass or aluminum and Steel also. I’m not picky and shoot pretty much anything and it all gets dumped in a big ammo can in my safe. The nice thing about buying on sale in stores is you don’t have to worry about shipping cost. when you start buying a box or two here in there it adds up pretty quickly.
Ice CapPosts: 2173March 1, 2020 at 2:54 pm #1919195I was buying the Winchester White box at Wal Mart a couple boxes at a time for awhile when I could find it. Decent target ammo and not terribly dirty. Also was buying 1000 round bulk cases online from various vendors. I haven’t had to buy ammo for quite sometime now as I think I still got about 10,000 rounds stashed away. I don’t shoot as much as I use to either.
March 1, 2020 at 7:19 pm #1919248A friend of mine swears by Winchester 9mm. Much cleaner to shoot. Cabelas just had it on sale with free shipping.
Ryan WilsonPosts: 333March 1, 2020 at 11:45 pm #1919288I’ve always put Winchester White Box through my M&P9 for target and practice. I find it to be one of the more cleaner “bulk” ammo’s readily available. I don’t shoot as often as I’d like to either but I’ve put over 1000 rounds of WWB through it and have never had a failure of any kind. The worst ammo I’ve purchased was Winchester NATO. Terrible seats. Some 3mm short, some 3mm long. Some perfect. And the rounds themselves were excessively dirty. Remington is also very dirty in my experience. I know you should clean your firearm after every use but the difference between Remington and WWB were 5:1. Can’t really beat WWB for 9mm in my opinion. I find it to be an affordable quality ammo for range time. I also remember the price hike that happened and 100 rounds of WWB 9mm in my area reached $80 before tax. I’m glad that’s over.
For defense rounds I like 147 grain Hornady’s.
March 2, 2020 at 7:44 am #1919317To Piggyback on Ryan’s post about defense ammo, Lawmans.com is my go to for Federal HST. Half the cost of the fancy plastic boxes of 25rds they put on the shelf. Free shipping.
March 3, 2020 at 12:06 am #1919579I like SG Ammo to but I’ve probably bought more from Palmetto State Armory than anywhere. Here’s a good deal on CCI/Speer brass with Free Shipping. I might even pick up a couple at this price.

Stay away from Freedom Munitions. They sell direct. Erratic loads, often very week. The only bright spot was they stood behind it and gave me my money back on a return of many calibers. After the squib in my G26 I was done with them.
March 3, 2020 at 9:48 am #1919655ammoman.com is where I get my 45ACP. Reward points add up fast and always free shipping.

Ive shot a LOT of Freedom Munitions with no issues. Though Ive read this complaint more than a few times. Its so easy to find deals I no longer have just one place.
tornadochaserPosts: 756March 3, 2020 at 10:19 am #1919677As an FYI, no need to pay more than 17 cents per round for 115 gr FMJ range ammo. Any more expensive and you’re either buying locally, or buying a specific load for feed/reliability preference.
March 18, 2020 at 10:01 pm #1924758IF you’re a savvy shopper, make http://www.wikiarms.com your first stop. They don’t always list everyone’s deals but they cover so many it’s convenient as a one stop shop and compare resource. Always compare prices to shipping offers for lowest out of pocket cost. You can also refine your search by putting your brand of choice/curiosity into the search box. Everything lists as “price-per-round”.
Happy shopping!
tornadochaserPosts: 756Coletrain27Posts: 4789April 1, 2020 at 4:08 pm #1929789Fleet farm had Winchester white box on sale the other day for 9.99 for a box of 50. They had a decent amount in stock also.
April 1, 2020 at 5:45 pm #1929814Yeah Fleet Farm has had a good selection still. Just because they don’t have any one day doesn’t mean they wont the next.
April 2, 2020 at 8:46 am #1929989Have fun finding bulk ammo for the next month or so…
Already back in stock at the big online ammo sites
I think companies have figured out what sells during these panic attacks and now they make and stock more so they can profit from panic buyers.
These panics are great for the gun and ammo industry. Thousands of Rambo / prepper wannabes that don’t normally buy 100 rounds a year are suddenly crazed panic buying thousands of rounds at inflated prices. And even better, they’re on Facebook telling all their friends to do the same.
I think these panics are kind of running out of steam. Wonder how many guys still have thousands of rounds of 22 long rifle from the last panic?

April 2, 2020 at 9:29 am #1930015Two events generally make people panic buy ammo in large quantities:
1) A democratic president
2) A mass shootingYou can now add a third item: Global Pandemic.

Spot on.
NRA contributions go through the roof during these times as well. If you sell guns or ammunition, you often want the opposite of your political ideals to occur for your business’s sake.

If you’re buying ammo, the first thing I’d do is buy some individual boxes and shoot off a rest to find out what your gun shoots best. Then buy a larger quantity of that load and stick with it.
I reload, so I don’t buy a lot of centerfire ammo except for testing rifles. I’ve used Abel Ammo, Midway USA, and Precision Reloading in the past for test batches and all 3 of these sites have good prices on average.

Coletrain27Posts: 4789April 2, 2020 at 11:28 am #1930109At 9.99 a box of 50 your not gonna find it much cheaper online. And that was even brass case
Musky EdPosts: 679April 4, 2020 at 7:27 am #1930760Just checked SG Ammo, what a surprise from what I remember seeing a few months back. Fiocci for $250 a case, about 2 months back it was $170. Also virtually no ammo available. To think about a month back, I was at Gander and 9mm Aguila was on sale for about $7.50 for members, and I passed by and kept walking, as I have learned from the past and will never be in that situation again. I will say though, I was at Fleet Farm yesterday on my once a week shopping trip, to get some lawn fertilizer, and went by the gun section to see what’s up. Inventory was low, but there was still ammo available. I actually think it is a good thing when at time like this, people that wouldn’t normally be buying guns and ammo, go out and buy what they feel is important to them in these times. A lot of these new gun owners could be supporters in the future. If you are a long time gun owner, and are short on ammo now, there is only one person to be upset at, as up to a month or two ago, ammo has been incredibly cheap if you looked for it.

At marked up prices and fast sell outs…Nobody is going to see $159 1000 round boxes of brass 115 fmj anytime soon. The new “good” price benchmark will be 20 cents/round again.
April 6, 2020 at 7:34 pm #1931672Had to stop in at the EauClaire Farm&Fleet to pick up some feed needless to say the gun cupboards were really really sparse ammo seemed OK. As I reload did not pay a lot of attention to price.

Yes the retailers have figured out how to quickly maximize profits from panic buyers. B oy are the good at hittig the jack up prices button now. Also so many of these panic buyers rarely buy ammo anyway, so they pay no attention to price and don’t even realize they got screwed.
I reload so except for shotgun shells and rimfire I let the panicking blow over with no impact.
