I see a lot of tip downs built with oak 1×1, I had a hard time finding that at menards but i picked up a bunch of 1×2 pine very cheap.

Is strength the main reason why people prefer to use oak? Am i going to have major issues with pine?

Main reason is strength and resistance to water. I used to use wood but switched to PVC, no worries about water, same weight, work just as well or better. I have a posting in the classifieds.

I just found out yesterday that someone copied my PVC design and is selling them by the Hundreds, yes Hundreds to the Indians. They will put out 25 or more for each person.

You wonder why the Crappie population takes a hit in some lakes.

icenutz, i actually had one of your wood designs and I currently have a pvc design, great tip down for a great price. I did base my design off of yours although i won’t be selling them, just needed to make a bunch because i keep losing them or loaning them out, i have a bunch of the cheap rods that to use just laying around already.

You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
